Ralph MarstonWhenever my husband and I have a conflict it usually boils down to one thing, one or both of us don't feel appreciated! It's so easy to take people for granted especially those who are closest to us. But those are the people we really need to express gratitude for the most, because without them our lives would be very different.
I make it a habit to tell my husband how much I love and appreciate him every day. I don't wait to express my feelings in a holiday card although I do that too. When the impulse moves me I don't hesitate to pick up the phone, or give him a big hug and just say "THANK YOU." I tell him I appreciate his doing the dishes, feeding the cats or helping me with that letter I was stuck on. Whatever it is, big or small, it all adds up like money in an emotional bank account. Appreciation keeps our love for each other strong and our communication open.
When was the last time you told someone you love, how much you appreciate them? Try calling, send an e-mail, or even better snail mail a real greeting card. We all love to feel acknowledged. Thank YOU is a universal language easily understood in every country. Let it begin with you and spread to everyone you know. Before you know it your "I am so grateful" attitude will spread like a healthy vaccine helping people "feel good" about themselves and each other.
