Bristol Palin segment on FOX News
Bristol Palin is finally speaking up about her teen pregnancy and her experiences as a new mom. The 18-year-old daughter of Sarah Palin, the governor of Alaska spoke with Greta Van Susteren of FOX News (Gov. Palin makes an appearance in the interview.)
Palin gave birth to son, Tripp, in late December. The father is Palin's fiancé, Levi Johnston.
The news of Palin's teen pregnancy caused a tailspin last August. Her mom, a staunch advocate of abstinence-only sex education, had just been named as the running mate to Sen. John McCain in the presidential election.
Throughout the interview, Palin was crystal clear that while she loves her baby, she does not support teen pregnancy and wishes it had occurred when she was older. "I don't regret it all. I just wish it would've happened in ten years rather than right now," she said.
"I'd love to be an advocate to prevent teen pregnancy. It's not a situation you want to strive for."
Palin was also adamant that she had her baby because it was her choice, and not forced upon her by her pro-life mom.
I'll admit that I thought the interview was refreshing, mostly because Palin seemed incredibly honest, even when she refused to talk about certain topics. It's interesting to watch Palin's reaction when her mom steps into the interview. Grandma Palin seemed eager to get her spin into the story, and her daughter couldn't wait for that moment to be over.
On the topic of birth control, Bristol told Van Susteren that "everyone should be abstinent and whatever but it's not realistic at all because...it's more and more accepted now among kids my age."
I wonder how Grandma Palin feels about that.
