The warm weather is finally here, and along with excitement about summer vacations and beach days and fun dresses, comes the anxiety around being seen in a bikini. We talked to five star trainers and found out how they get their celebs in top shape.
Eva Mendes: Celebrity Trainer Harley Pasternak
"When you're at the gym, focus on the muscles on the back of your body, like your rhomboids (do reverse incline dumbbell rows), triceps (do lying dumbbell triceps extensions), and hamstrings (do dumbbell deadlifts)." Do three sets of 15 to 20 reps each with enough weight to make your last five reps in each set extremely challenging.
Try the beauty products that celebs can't live without.
Jennifer Garner: Celebrity Trainer Valerie Waters
"You have to eat better - nobody can out-train a crappy diet. I start all my clients off with a kitchen purge. Get out the trash can and throw away all of your processed junk: crackers, cookies, and white bread, rice, and pasta. Willpower alone won't get you through, and this way, you won't have to rely on it." While you're at it, nix these "healthy" habits that actually make you chubby.
Top off your new hot bod with sexy, beachy waves.
Kate Beckinsale: Celebrity Trainer Ramona Braganza
"Combine interval and cardio circuit training for one hour." Braganza recommends three strength training sessions broken up by three 10 minute sessions of cardio. Start with three exercises focusing on chest quads and triceps (three sets of 15 to 20 reps), then after 10 minutes of cardio to the same for exercises that work the back, hamstrings, and biceps, followed by more cardio and finishing up with 10 minutes of core exercises working areas like your abs and lower back. She adds, "Don't rest for more than a few seconds between each exercise. This should burn 500 to 600 calories and keep your metabolism moving."
Look amazing in just 48 hours.
Chloë Sevigny: Celebrity Trainer Gregg Miele
"Do cardio first thing in the morning on an empty stomach. Your body will search for an energy source, and since you'll probably have burned all your carbohydrates overnight, it will tap into fat. You could even have a shot of espresso or cup of black coffee before your workout to further boost your metabolism."
Drop five pounds in a week.
Christie Brinkley: Celebrity Trainer Oscar Gonzalez
"I tell my clients to be proud. It's funny to watch their reactions when I say this, but they all automatically do what I'm looking for: They squeeze and tighten their abdominal muscles so that they stand or sit up straight. Doing that alone works the abdominals, but it also gives you a better overall workout." Another way to trick your brain into healthier habits: Eat foods that help melt the fat away. The knowledge that your ingesting healthy foods will inspire you to work out harder.
