Read How Linsday Lohan Spent And Partied Her Way To The Poorhouse
Once upon a time, there was a lovely teenager who was launched into stardom after she appeared in the comedy "Mean Girls."
That teenager was Lindsay Lohan.
Fast forward to 2010 and things have changed a lot since "The Parent Trap" and "Freaky Friday."
Lohan is a disheveled mess and rumored to be in serious financial trouble.
Now 23, the actress has been to rehab three times in the past five years and can't make movies due to insurance companies seeing her as the ultimate liability.
Her gossiping friends say she's blown through all her money. Says Hollyscoop:
"The money that she has isn't really there anymore. There's no money saved up. Its not hard to go through 5 million dollars, especially if your Lindsay Lohan."
What happened?
In our latest look at how celebrities go from rich to broke we chronicle...
The downfall of Lohan ->A very expensive drug habit
Lohan is known for her partying. In fact, one could argue that she is one of the hardest partying celebrities of all time. According to Hollyscoop, Lohan's coke habit reportedly cost her anywhere from $3500-$5000 a month:
"There were reports a few days ago back that Lohan was allegedly spending about $5,000 a week on drugs, but our 'source' insists that this figure is reportedly closer to about $3,500. The last few months Lohan was allegedly "spotted" narcotics, because she's in debt to the people who are supplying her, but no one's really giving her a hard time because she's Lindsay Lohan. The source added that Lohan is apparently in $30,000 debt for narcotics."

The high-maintenance DJ girlfriendSamantha Ronson, DJ and sister of musician Mark Ronson, dated Lohan in a high-profile relationship during 2008. Reports are always surfacing that the two have either broken up or still together. No one truly knows for sure.
Both liked to drink and party into the wee hours of the night. Additionally, Ronson and Lohan could frequently be found overseas at various clubs where Ronson was DJing. Travel expenses and nightclub expenses no doubt added to Linday's financial woes.

Insurance Liabilities
When you shoot a film, the producers are required to obtain insurance. When Lohan was set to shoot her direct-to-DVD movie "Labor Pains," she was almost uninsurable according to Celebitchy:
'"Labor Pains" producer Rick Schwartz kept getting turned down by insurers, an informed source tells us.
"[Schwartz] could only find one insurance company to cover her, and even then he really had to vouch for her."
As Carrie Fisher wrote in "Postcards From the Edge," actors with a history of drug and alcohol abuse, to which Lohan has admitted, have difficulty getting film insurance. Lohan is still on probation for two DUI arrests last year…'
The AMG Mercedes-Benz
At one point, Lindsay thought it'd be a great idea to plunk down more than $180,000 on a Mercedes-Benz SL 65 AMG convertible. After crashing it and running amock in general with the car, Lohan put it up for auction on eBay where it sold for around $111,000 despite being a post-crash vehicle.

Another mistake: an ill-advised music careerMany actors think that just because they can act, they can sing too. In some cases, that turns out to be true (Keanu Reeves, Ryan Gosling, Zoey Deschanel), but other times, it ends up being a complete s---show. Lohan recorded an album back in 2004 called "Speak." It was panned by critics and considered a commercial failure. While it did ship over 1 million copies (thus being certified Platinum by the RIAA), no one bought it and reviewers didn't hold back
Steve Thomas from Allmusic.com had this to say about "Speak":
"When paired with the loud, relentlessly ProTooled dance-pop and hooky but unmelodic songs on Speak", wrote Stephen Thomas Erlewine of Allmusic, "the whole thing is a slick, ugly nadir of 2000s pop culture -- the kind of thing that makes Blue Staters think that, gee, maybe the Red Staters were right when they said the U.S. is going to hell."

Her Films Don't Even Hit Movie Theaters AnymoreAsk anyone what the last decent movie Lohan appeared in was and they'll promptly respond "Mean Girls."
After a string of flops that actually made it to theaters, Lohan had to take the low road and start doing direct-to-TV and direct-to-DVD movies, like this one: "Labor Pains," a low budget flick that debuted on ABC Family. Nevermind that she could barely get insurance for the film, Lohan's acting leaves much to be desired.
