Last DACED General Membership Meeting of 2011 is Today

    Hello DACED Friends,

We'll be holding our last meeting of 2011 today. We're meeting early in the month to avoid any conflict with the start of the holiday season.

We will be holding our yearly club elections, which we'll be taking nominations from the floor. We will also be accepting any proposals for amending our club bylaws.

I would like to mention a few things that has happened since we last convened on October.

On November 8th our state held a successful election. Texans voted on 10 proposed amendments to our state's constitution, on issues ranging from school funding to gubernatorial powers. Of the propositions voted on, #s 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 9, and 10 were approved, while #s 4, 7, and 8 were defeated. Locally, the community of Sunnyvale approved a measure allowing retail beer & wine sales. Further election results can be found online at

Our club participated in this year's Mesquite Taste & Trade. I want to thank everyone who came out to help. We had one candidate come out and be with us, Mr. Scott Perry, who is running for the 162nd Civil District court. Thank you sir. At this event, we engaged the public, speaking with them and promoting the club. We had a positive response to our being there, and in the end, our booth won the award for Best Presentation.

Next, I would like to touch briefly on the subject of Public Transportation here in Mesquite. This project, which ultimately will be in the form of light-rail, is being spearheaded by the city. There is alot of support for it in the community. But, opponents of Public Transportation continue to fight against this good idea. In the coming months, this subject will be getting more attention, especially when the Hanby to Lawnview bus route starts. I believe bringing Public Transportation, in the form light-rail, to Mesquite is a great idea, and I know many of our clubmembers do also. As this issue progresses, I will do my best to keep you all informed of the situation.

Lastly, our club Holiday party. It will be held on Saturday December 3rd 7-10:PM. The location will announced during our meeting this evening. As we have done these past few years, we will be adopting a needy family from the Mesquite Social Services. For this family we'll be collecting toys, clothes, Gift cards, etc. Shannon will have the details about the family to share with all of you.
