BettyConfidential's own Sarah Polonsky with Betty White!
"I think what you're doing is great, dear," Betty White said to me this weekend when I told her about BettyConfidential, and our mission to provide an outlet for women to learn, laugh, grow, gossip and become the women they want to be.
I was lucky enough to meet the fabulous Betty during the SNL party Saturday night. Earlier in the evening I was on the show's set where I witnessed the veritable mayhem and excitement that goes on backstage of the infamous television show.
A spectacular mishmash of celebrities came together on the eighth floor at NBC on Saturday night. Molly Shannon-looking thinner than ever-chatted with a producer as Amy Poehler was being fitted for her costume. Fantastic pandemonium ensued as wigs went flying, make-up artists were running and security was ushering stray folks stay out of the way as giant sets moved about.
Suddenly, everything went silent. There she was… Betty White.
As the timelessly beautiful and iconic octogenarian emerged from her dressing room wearing a cute pink costume to perform her first skit of the evening-- everyone backstage stopped what he or she was doing and started to applaud.
Then, onto the stage she went and brought the house down.
Have you ever wondered what bands do just moments before they go on stage? As it turns out-they talk sports-at least that's what Jay-Z does. Just moments before his second set, which he performed alongside Mr. Hudson, Hova discussed his favorite sports with his posse. "I'd definitely say my two favorites are basketball and professional fighting-the old school stuff," Jay-Z said. "I love the old school fighting." His wife, Beyoncé, did not make it to the taping.
Betty had no time for chatting at the Peacock, so we caught up with her at the after party, which was held at NYC restaurant Docks.
Despite the hoards of excited people-fans and celebrities alike- whom were clamoring to get a moment with the entertainment icon at the event, Betty stopped for a photo with this BettyConfidential senior editor. "Thanks so much for writing about me," Betty said to me at around 2-in-the-morning. How many 88-year-olds do you know that stay out and party at that hour? They should call her "Betty Stamina White!
At one point, the mob of over 100 partygoers abruptly stopped their schmoozing and gawked as America's sweetheart made her way out of the soiree. We all then burst into thunderous applause for everyone's favorite Betty!
