    MASSIVE Toyata Recall

Toyota today recalled 2.3 million cars and trucks to fix potentially faulty accelerator pedals that have led to numerous reports of dangerous acceleration and runaway vehicles. This is in addition to an earlier, on-going recall of more than 4 million Toyota and Lexus vehicles for what the company called "risk of pedal entrapment" due to out-of-place floor mats. In a press release TMS Group Vice President Irv Miller said, "In recent months, Toyota has investigated isolated reports of sticking accelerator pedal mechanisms in certain vehicles without the presence of floor mats. Our investigation indicates that there is a possibility that certain accelerator pedal mechanisms may, in rare instances, mechanically stick in a partially depressed position or return slowly to the idle position. Consistent with our commitment to the safety of our cars and our customers, we have initiated this voluntary recall action."
