Michael Moore takes on the economy

Documentary filmmaker Michael Moore is known for taking on difficult, controversial subjects, and his upcoming film is no exception: it's about the economy. Moore has become famous for his often ruthless attacks of gun ownership, large corporations, globalization, the Iraq war, the American health care system and even George W. Bush's presidency while he was in office.

While many people find Moore's films to be self-aggrandizing, we appreciate that the filmmaker takes risks by bringing vital issues into the public eye and opening them up for scrutiny. His unique, "insider" depictions of topics we care about typically leave us with a more in depth understanding of them. Moore does the work, comes up with potential alternative solutions, and above all, gets us thinking. Whether his perspective is subjective or not, learning more about important topics and opening up a public discourse gets us motivated to pay attention to what's going on in the world and want to make a difference.

Michael Moore's new trailer is, not surprisingly, a sarcastic jab at the big banks and companies who have gotten us into the financial mess that led to our current recession. Are you interested in what Moore will present about the economy? [EW]
