    New Orleans After the Storm

We just returned from three weeks in Louisiana. Although we visited several times a year while we lived in the south, this was my first trip after Katrina. The landscape has changed. The destruction is still a powerful reminder of that catastrophe.

The house above looks like any aged cottage sitting in an older city. Actually, it is sitting above a first floor that has heavy equipment parked in front, barracades on the street, and a general melancholy aide memoire.

I still love the little house perched on a flooded first floor. It is quaint and homey. It has potential. The foundation will be put right. Its inhabitants will get pleasure from the addition of joyful colors. It is an inspiration for me as I start the next phase of life myself.
