It is time to realize who these two men are? Hasn't anyone wondered about their names, Barack Obama and John McCain? Obah or Obadiah means servant in the Bible. El is the ancient Hebrew word for God. Combining el at the end of a name as in Abel, means servant of God. In orginal Hebrew, vowels were not present. Maa added to obah means priestly service. Barak can be spelled Barack. Barack means lightning in Hebrew. Barak, in the Jewish and Christian tradition, was a man of God. Look in the book of Judges. Barak defeated Jabin, king of Canaan .
Before God's people desired a king to rule over them, there were judges, who were instructed by God to rule over the people. This form of government was one of respect and authority, in which God was the sovereign power. But the people saw the kings who ruled over other nations and they wanted a king of their own. This angered God. God chose a king named David to appease His people. This was the transitional period between judges and kings, an important change in the destiny of all people and all nations. Why? Because people no longer relied on God's priestly judges, instead they relied on the power of a king. It wasn't until Jesus was proclaimed King of kings that a new power entered the world, one that changed the course of Biblical history.
Cain, Adam's son, means smith and spear. The vowels and spelling can be transposed to form cana or canaan, meaning the low lands. Cane means tall grass. The Canaanites were a Jewish sect referred to in the both the Old and New Testament. It is easy to forget the connection between Cain and the land of Canaan , and assume that Cain was never forgiven by God. Throughout genealogies of the Judeo-Christian Bible, Cain's bloodline remained in the Jewish, Islamic, and Christian bloodlines.
It is wrong to view Cain and Abel in the context if only two brothers. A multitude of brothers followed. Before Cain killed Abel, he went to his brother for understanding and counsel. Cain wanted to know why his offering was not accepted by God, and perhaps, what he might do to improve his offering to God. It is very possible that Abel, in talking with Cain, did not give his brother what was needed in that moment between two brothers. It may have been a test for both brothers, a test of their character and their resolve.
We read in Genesis in the Judeo-Christian Bible that Cain's countenance had fallen in speaking with God. Cain rose up against Abel, his brother, and killed him. However, violence was already on the earth and blood had been shed before this event. In the conversation that followed, Cain pleaded with God that God's punishment was greater than he could bear. Bearing this burden became Cain's cross that he carried. Cain married and built a city. Abel had children before he died and his name continues throughout history.
Adam went on to have another son, Seth, and we must assume that he had many daughters and sons. According to Genesis or Bere s---h, there was an ungodly line to be destroyed by the flood and a godly line to be saved. Only Noah's line was spared, which is an important statement because all inhabitants on earth were from one family, Noah's family.
Abel and Cain would face each other as brothers in more generations to come. The land of Canaan was promised by God to His people. God promised Abram, a descendant of Noah, land for his descendants forever. Before God changed Abram's name to Abraham, God promised children to Abram who would inherit the land. Abram had two sons, Ishmael and Isaac. Both sons would carry on the bloodline leading to Islam, Judaism, and Christianity. In time, Israel conquered the land and its people. But they made a mistake and didn't finish carrying out God's conditions relating to that promise of land. Instead, brothers warred over the land, destroying each other's bond of blood, and eventually the land did not yield as it had before the conquest. The story of two brothers followed in this pattern for generations until the present day.
Now, brothers face each other again. There is only one good outcome because greater treats are in the world. They must both lead the world forward, toward a peaceful resolution, reconciliation, and restitution.
(Note: I do not have any preferences regarding these two candidates.)
