YOUR FRIENDS' ACTIVITY

    " God's Spy " Book Review

Due in part because of "The DaVinci Code" and the latest release "Lost Symbol", this book looked interesting. I also found this novel on the "featured book" table, and as usual, between the title and the cover I was hooked. Also, on the inside of the front and back cover was a map of Vatican City, made it easy to track the movements of the story. It begins with the passing of the Pope and then Cardinals begin to be murdered in a very methodical and gruesome way, in Rome, as the Church is calling for a conclave to appoint the new Pope. Another mystery...my kind of book!

God' s Spy was written by Juan Gomez-Jurado and released in April of 2007. The publisher is Dutton of the Penguin Group. Juan Gomez-Jurado is an awardwinning journalist and God's Spy is an International Bestseller. He has been published in more than 35 countrie and lives with his wife and child in Spain. This is his first novel.

I liked this novel. The main characters, Inspector Paola Dicanti and Father Anthony Fowler, a priest and former Army Intelligents Officer, come together to try and solve the murders and try desperately to stop any more from taking place. There are shady priests of questionable repute , a manical killer, very maticulous in his approach to the victims and their demise, a group of scientists, particularly one who has discovered how to harness an element that could be used for mass destruction and all most all of the story set in and around the Vatican. But rest assured, this story does not blast the Church or the faith of the people. You, along with the main characters, will find yourself beginning to feel that there is more to this than just a lunatic murdering Cardinals, that something far more sinister and much bigger is involved...and you and they are right. Who is finally exposed as The One behind all of the mayhem and death will be a complete surprize. This one gets a thumbs up and a A - ...not perfect but well written and does keep you interested. My only complaint, if you can call it that, too much conversation and way too much scientific jargon and computer "speak".
