I admit it - I've watched The Secret and read Lynn Grabhorn's self help book Excuse Me Your Life is Waiting. Both discuss how intentions & thoughts are just another form of energy and how positive and negative energy (or a positive or negative way of thinking) is the major contributor to whether we achieve success or failure in our lives. Can this be true? If it was as simple as just changing the way we think, wouldn't we all be healthy, happy and rich?
Einstein & The Ancients
The concept of energy is far from new. The ancient Chinese called it Chi and the ancient Hindus called it Prana. Albert Einstein's famous equation E= mc2, proved that when you boil it down to basics, everything in the universe, whether it be physical matter or the abstract reality of our minds, is simply energy. Einstein also proved that energy is attracted to other energy with like frequencies. Meaning it's not opposites that attract- but rather likes attract likes.
If we believe in the basic principals of Quantum Physics - is it safe to say that since both money and the way we think about it is simply energy, if we can change our thought patterns and think more positively about it, will we become more likely to achieve our financial goals?!
Are You Stressed About Money?
Being stressed over money is a common state of being for many these days. And if you think about how much time people spend worrying about finances in both their work and their personal life, it makes you wonder: how can this negative state of being ever attract anything positive to help turn it around? So, how do we change the way we think?
The Power of Thought
Be careful what you wish for, or rather, be careful how you wish for something! The things we spend the most time putting our energy into, positive or negative, tend to come true. Think about it. Likes attract likes. Whenever we find ourselves in a state of desperation, negative thoughts consume us, and we dig ourselves into an even deeper hole. But when something goes well, we often get on a roll- and Watch Out!
Become Aware of Your Thinking & Write it Down
Take the time to recognize YOUR actual thought process when you are facing financial stress or even if you are fortunate enough to find a five dollar bill in the street! Although they are quite different reactions, try writing down your exact inner dialogue without editing a word.
For example, "OMG, I can't pay my mortgage this month." Or, "I can't wait to enjoy that double cappuccino I'm going to treat myself to with my $5 bucks!"
Lynn Grabhorn would say, instead of focusing on the fear of not being able to pay your mortgage, think about something that you FEEL good about, and channel that positive feeling into an active thought like: "My mortgage is paid in full, and I am enjoying a night on the town with my friends".
Now this doesn't mean just by changing your thought process that you can now kick back and do nothing! There is a difference between throwing a positive intention into the universe and being irresponsible. But there is something to be said about becoming aware of how you really think about a situation so you are not unknowingly perpetuating your anxiety and making matters worse. Because if likes attract likes, is it really worth purposefully attracting negative energy from the universe?
Of course, we're only human, and it's difficult to be positive all of the time. But I think it's much more Fab & Fru to try and look on the bright side of the street - there may just be a five dollar bill waiting for you to find it!
Do you have any stories how creating a positive intention has helped turn something in your life around?
