YOUR FRIENDS' ACTIVITY

What Will You Be Watching This Fall?

These are the shows we're most excited about - let us know if you agree in the comments!

    Homeland
Why: The initialism-riddled drama follows a CIA agent (Claire Danes) investigating a POW she thinks is FOS. As a bonus, Mandy Patinkin plays her boss, and, man, have we missed him as Gideon on Criminal Minds.
    Channels: Rubicon with Bourne-like speed.
Set the DVR: Showtime, premieres Oct. 2. Sun., 10 p.m. EST.

10 NEW MOVIES TO CHECK OUT THIS MONTH

    Up All Night
Why: A sitcom about spankin' new parents with serious comedic pedigrees (Will Arnett, Christina Applegate). Not to mention, Maya Rudolph co-stars.
Channels: Mr. Mom as foulmouthed and frantic as he actually would have been.
Set the DVR: NBC. Wed., 8 p.m. EST.

    A Gifted Man
Why: We're suckers for sappy medical dramas with leading men named Patrick (Wilson, in this case), so we'll have Kleenex ready as a selfish doctor gets a wake-up call from his deceased wife.
Channels: ER haunted by a Ghost.
Set the DVR: CBS, premieres Sept. 23. Fri., 8 p.m. EST.

    THE 11 BEST FALL READS

    2 Broke Girls
Why: A street-smart gal (with a masculine name, of course) and a down-on-her-luck trust-fund baby chum it up while waiting tables at a diner and dreaming of a cupcake biz.
Channels: Gossip Girl makes nice at Mystic Pizza.
Set the DVR: CBS. Mon., 9:30 p.m. EST.

    Pan Am
Why: Though we might be set up for disappointment by the most-hyped show of the season, we'll tune in for costumes, cavorting, and Christina Ricci all grown up.
Channels: Mad Men earning its Wings.
Set the DVR: ABC, premieres Sept. 25. Sun., 10 p.m. EST.

    OUR FAVORITE MOVIES TO RENT

    New Girl
Why: Hipster darling Zooey Deschanel is enough reason to tune in, but the funny banter with her handsome roomies sold us.
Channels: A He's Just Not That into You hangover cured by My Boys.
Set the DVR: Fox. Tues., 9 p.m. EST.

    American Horror Story
Why: The creator of Nip/Tuck and co-creators of Glee (quite the pairing if we've ever seen one) depict a family's move to a haunted house with a flame-surrounded Denis O'Hare and latex-bound, S&M creature.
Channels: The Haunting in Connecticut enters The Twilight Zone.
Set the DVR: FX, premieres Oct. 5. Wed., 10 p.m. EST.
