5 things to add to your diet to increase weight loss

Many people think about what they need to cut from their diet in order to lose weight. I know I've spent years thinking about how I need to give up this or that. One thing people fail to focus on though is what you can or, more importantly, what you should add to your diet to lose weight. Believe it or not, there are foods you can add to your diet to increase weight loss. Here are just five things to add to your diet to help you lose weight.

Low-Fat Dairy

Did you know that people who consume low-fat dairy products so that they consume 1200-1300mg of calcium in their diet per day lose more weight as those that don't? In a study conducted at the University of Tennessee, participants who include 3-4 serving of dairy in their diet lost 11% body weight during a 24 week study, while those that were on a low-calcium diet only lost 6% of their total body weight.

Capsaicin

Capsaicin is found in hot peppers. The hotter the pepper, the more capsaicin. Capsaicin actually works to burn stored fat. It can also increase metabolism rates. It can even help you eat less. If you're not a fan of spicy foods, no problem. There are capsaicin supplements that can purchased in health food stores, but you need to take these with caution. Too much capsaicin can actually be dangerous to your health.

Cinnamon

Another spice said to help in weight loss is cinnamon. There are actually a number of reasons why cinnamon aids in weight loss, but one of the biggest reasons is its ability to speed metabolism. When cinnamon is consumed, the body works harder to control the heat that is caused from a chemical reaction initiated by the digestion of cinnamon. You can add cinnamon to your foods or you can also take supplements.

Omega 3 Fatty Acids

Omega 3 fatty acids are found in foods, such as salmon and tuna, however there are also fish oil supplements that can be taken, but may not be as beneficial. The reason omega 3 fatty acids aid in weight loss is that they too increase metabolism by altering hormone production.

Whole Grains

Last, but not least, whole grains are an excellent way to boost weight loss. First of all, whole grains help keep us full, which prevents overeating. But, whole grains are also miracle workers because they help clear the body of waste, which can also help you shed pounds.

Stop worrying about what you can't have and focus on what you can have. These foods all work well at helping us lose weight, but you must also remember that they aren't cure-alls. You still need to exercise and eat right in order to shed the most weight.
