How to Find a Good Plastic Surgeon

Dual Board Certified Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon Dr. Andrew Jacono says the number one message about plastic surgery: do your homework.

"Its just like if you were going to purchase a blender," Dr. Jacono says. "Most of us go online and we see reviews and we find out about the product and its pros and cons. You need to do that kind of homework when you're choosing a doctor."

The steps involved in "doing your homework" include:

  • Look at your potential surgeon's credentials. The surgeon should be board certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery, the American Board of Facial Plastic Surgery, the American Board of Oculoplastic and Reconstructive Surgery or the American Board of Dermatology.

  • Ensure the doctor has no sanctions against their medical practice within your state.

  • Look up the surgeon's malpractice history online.

  • The doctor should have hospital privileges at a very reputable hospital
