The Artist's scene-stealing canine, Uggie the Dog, may technically be retired, but that doesn't mean that he's just sitting around twiddling his thumbs-or paws, as the case may be. In addition to having recently become Nintendo's newest spokesdog , the adorable Jack Russell terrier will soon be realizing his literary aspirations. That's right: Uggie has a book deal!

Last Friday, Simon & Schuster imprint Gallery Books announced that the rambunctious pooch will be releasing a memoir in October of this year. Entitled Uggie: My Story, the book will be transcribed by biographer Wendy Holden. We can only assume that Ms. Holden includes among her many talents the ability to speak fluent canine.

And Uggie most certainly has a tale to tell: He may be a big star now, but his early life was full of hardship. Having been rejected by his first two owners as being too wild, the pup was about to be sent to a dog pound-but by a stroke of luck, animal trainer Omar Von Muller found him and adopted him instead. Uggie's fearless nature and love of performing subsequently help Omar transform him into the four-legged sensation that he is today. A happy ending for all!

Be sure to check out Uggie: My Story when it hits book stores this fall!
