How to Make Your Own Memo Board
I love memo boards because they allow you to easily switch out pictures or put up little reminders. But it's always hard to find ones that match my décor, so I thought why not make my own? Using picture frames, cork sheet, spray adhesive, fabric, and scissors; it took me just a few hours. If you have to buy everything it may end up costing you more than a conventional memo board but if you have some old frames and fabric you will probably be able to save money and personalize your space at the same time. Here's how to do it and tips for choosing supplies.
1. Cut the cork to sheet about 1/8 of an inch smaller than the size of the picture frame backing. Using spray adhesive glue the cork to the frame backing and let it dry. Tip for buying cork: Choose cork that's about a ¼-inch thick--if it's too thick you won't be able to use the frame backing and if it's too thin you won't be able to push pins in. Make sure you buy flat sheets of cork not rolled ones which are extremely difficult to work with because they keep rolling back up.

2. Cut a piece of fabric about ½-inch larger than the cork and using spray adhesive glue the fabric onto the board, smoothing out any wrinkles as you work. Tip for picking fabric: Choose a woven fabric not a knit, as a knit may stretch out over time. Woven cotton's a good choice because it won't snag.
A printed fabric will really "pop" but make sure it doesn't pop so much that it overwhelms the contents of your board.
3. It may take some work to get the cork-lined backing into the frame. Just be patient-with some maneuvering and pushing you'll slide it in.

4. After everything is in place, flip the board over and make sure the fabric's taut; if it's not tug on the excess fabric to get rid of any wrinkles.
5. With push pins, tack up pictures, notes, and mementos on your memo board. Hang it up and enjoy your handiwork!
