10 Habits of Happy, Chic Moms

As a stay-at-home mom of two children, it would be easy for me to just wear sweats all day long and eat junk food. However, I enjoy being healthy and fashionable. This type of lifestyle makes me content. When I am happy, the entire family benefits because I am joyful and fun. Here are ten habits of happy, chic moms.

1. "Me time"

Since I am the main childcare provider for my children, I spend an average of 12 hours a day with my kids. Thus, when I am given the chance, I take some "me time." Time away from the kids and the household chores is refreshing. This might mean I go run some errands by myself or take a kick boxing class. The time away allows me to recharge my batteries.

2. Exercise

Exercise is essential for anyone's health. I try to walk to the park several times a week. Kickboxing, running and hiking are other forms of exercise I enjoy. Exercise releases feel-good endorphins that make me happy. After having two kids, a flat stomach is great for my self-esteem.

3. Healthy eating

Simple carbohydrates such as white bread are immediate downers. Although it's okay to indulge once in a while, a steady diet of junk food will make you feel sluggish. Super foods like kale, quinoa and blueberries are excellent for your immune system and your appearance. Replacing cream and sugar-laden coffee with Lipton Hot Black Tea is another way to get a healthy glow.

4. Creative outlets

I love being a mom. However, cooking, cleaning and taking care of kids is not enough for me. I need a creative outlet. For me, this is writing. For others, this might mean painting, decorating or dancing.

5. Date nights

My husband and I just had a date night to our favorite local restaurant. I think it is important for a couple to connect without their children. It gives us a break from parenting and allows us to relax too.

6. Girl time

It's fun to have a night out with the girls or a pedicure date with your sister. Sometimes, women just need some time to chat about girl things.

7. Hobbies

My children are my world. However, I also like to read and write. Whether you like to exercise, blog or have a career, it's good to have interests other than your children. Balance is key to being happy.

8. Appearance

Although my family is on a tight budget, I try to go to a professional salon a few times a year. A nice haircut and a few highlights do wonders for my appearance. A manicure and pedicure make me feel pretty too. I'm not obsessed with my appearance. However, looking good helps me feel confident.

9. Little indulgences

For the most part, I am frugal. However, every once in a while I like to go out to a fancy dinner or buy an expensive pair of jeans. I look forward to these special indulgences.

10. Sleep

Sleep is vital to everyone's well-being. A good eight hours of sleep are good for my mood. On the other hand, being exhausted and frazzled makes me unhappy. Taking naps when the baby sleeps is one way to get some extra slumber. If you are really tired, have someone watch your children while you sleep.

These 10 healthy habits help me have a sunny outlook. As a result, I am a better mom.
