The inspiration for hair and makeup at Vena Cava's A/W 2011 show was rock 'n' roll and androgeny. The muse: Fiona Apple. "The makeup serves as an accessory," explained MAC Cosmetics Lead Makeup Artist Christian McCulloch, "it's a jewel sparking from the darkness of the mostly black collection and the daring look of long night out."

But what else did we love? Grunge-inspired finger bands courtesy of Nonie Crème for Butter London. She kept the fingernail bare, with just a coat of clear polish, then freehand painted rings of polish onto the model's fingers. Nonie used five different colors, Union Jack Black, Tramp Stamp (a golden-brown color), Royal Navy, Scoundrel (a purple mauve shade), and a neon orange lab sample color to be released soon.

Get The Look: Expand your nail canvas with this trend by sticking to vegan and chemical-free polishes. Swipe a bit of acetone on your fingers to remove oils. For a rough, rugged look, freehand rings in complementary colors in the area between the nail bed and the second knuckle. Looking for more precise lines? Tape off the area with regular ol' scotch tape and carefully remove when polish has dried.

Most importantly use restraint! No more than two fingers and three bands per hand to stick to a rocker - not tribal - look.
