Hooray! It looks like we're not the only ones with our fingers crossed, anxiously awaiting a Britney comeback. MTV has nominated Ms. Spears Video Music Award-her song "Piece of Me" is up for the Best Female Music Video category. The bad news? She's competing against newcomer Katy Perry's "I Kissed a Girl," (which has been #1 on Billboard for the past six weeks), powerhouse Rihanna's "Take a Bow," long-term music vet Mariah Carey's "Touch My Body," and American Idol winner Jordin Sparks' "No Air."

Granted Britney could eat Jordin alive even with a mouth full of Cheetos, and Mariah isn't the exact epitome of MTV's demographic anymore, Britney being recognized above Rihanna or Katy might require heck freezing over. T.I. who's nominated for Best Male Video even questions her odds. "Stiff competition, he says. "May the best hot chick win!" Which reminds us…. You know what could really usher in a quick, surprise comeback for Brit? A duet with ex-boyfriend Justin Timberlake! LIVE ON THE 25TH ANNUAL MTV VMA'S ON SEPTEMPER 7. Oh, ok, fine. A girl can dream, can't she?
