How invested are you in the lives of TV characters?

Closely following a TV series is a much bigger commitment than watching a two-hour movie, and I often find myself completely caught up in the lives of the characters. Whether concerned about their romantic life, their career, their family or their day-to-day activities, I've often felt my own heart racing in hopes of a positive outcome. Or worse: their own personal scenario has worked its way into my dreams!

Many of you probably watched season after season of "Sex and the City" wondering if Carrie and Mr. Big would end up together, flinching every time he let her down and tearing up when he actually remembered her birthday. Some of you may pine for a relationship between Jim and Pam on "The Office" more than the fictional characters even want it.

Sure, I always want the girl to land her man, but the person I most associate with on TV is Larry David on "Curb Your Enthusiasm." I just get where he's coming from, fed up with all the expected social nuances. Every episode I see Larry setting himself up for disaster yet I wait with my fingers crossed praying he doesn't blow it again.

Growing up my main girl was Angela Chase of "My So-Called Life." Misunderstood by her parents, struggling to find her place between old friends and new friends-I was always on her side. When she got stood up by her crush, I too ate a pint of Ben & Jerry's. More recently I've found myself actually rooting for bad guys like Dexter and Tony Soprano. They're killers, but if god forbid they ever got caught, I feel like I would my own life would be over.

I know I can't be the only one. What characters do you get emotional about? Who have you been invested in over the years?
