How to Be a Considerate Guest

Even those who aren't hosting Thanksgiving dinner this year should prepare a little something for the holiday gathering. Whether you're bringing food or a gift, make sure to give thanks to your host in the spirit of the season.

Here's three ways to be a considerate guest at your Thanksgiving gathering:

1. Covered Dishes:
If you bring a holiday dish, be sure it will be trouble-free at dinnertime by packing it in a simple, attractive serving dish - one that can go from oven or refrigerator straight to the table.

Check out places like WalMart.com for oven-safe casserole dishes at good prices. Also, Target.com has a $14.99 blue stoneware lasagna pan that will look great on any Thanksgiving table.

2. Drinks:
Wine is always appreciated - especially if you bring one bottle chilled and another for the host to enjoy later. Another option in autumn is to bring cider with mulling spices, which can be served with cocktails or dessert.

We like the wine selection at BevMo! and keep it chilled with a "Rapid Ice Cooler" sleeve for $9.99 from Amazon.com.

3. Presents:
Gifts shouldn't add last-minute effort for the host. A holiday wreath or a bouquet of flowers make a lovely gift. Just remember to bring flowers prearranged in a vase that you can leave behind.
