Montblanc Announces the New York Stories Archive and Statue of Liberty Artisan Edition

Limited to just 50 pieces, symbolizing the number of states of the United States, the Statue of Liberty Artisan Edition showcases Montblanc's premier craftsmanship and pioneering design. The intricate 750 solid gold fittings over the gray PVD coating covering the writing instrument is inspired by the elements of the neoclassical sculpture. The barrel is engraved with the official date of the American Independence Declaration in roman letters. The cap symbolizes the crown of the statue in an abstract manner with a clip in the form of a torch enriched with a citrin jewel, which stands for the symbol of freedom. The three-dimensional pattern of the writing instrument symbolizes the steel construction of the actual statue by Gustave Eiffel. As a mark of the quality and craftsmanship of this piece, a mother-of-pearl Montblanc emblem is featured at the very summit of the writing instrument. "Entire product is made by hand, very labor intensive with the artistic process to create these pieces, there are only a few in a world we could actually make." states Jan-Patrick Schmitz, Montblanc's CEO of North America.

The Statue of Liberty is an iconic symbol of hope and freedom for many 20 th and 21 st Century 'pioneers' who have travelled to the United States in search of a better life. These individuals have countless tales and experiences to share. Jan-Patrick Schmitz also quotes "This country is built by immigrants working together for a common goal, everything we have today is built on knowledge and how to achieve our dreams."

To celebrate the art of storytelling and to document these stories, Montblanc is asking members of the public to handwrite short sentences about how their lives have been impacted by the Statue of Liberty. The Montblanc Statue of Liberty New York Stories Archive Book will be available to sign at the Madison Avenue flagship boutique from Tuesday, July 3rd to Saturday, July 7 th 2012.

With the Statue of Liberty Artisan Edition writing instrument, individuals can write and share their personal memories of New York, which will then be placed in Montblanc's archives. With inspiration from iconic New Yorkers like Truman Capote and JD Salinger, Montblanc hopes to commemorate New York's long history of the written word. "For me, it is more than a writing instrument, it is an underlying symbolic value for everything going on in the world" states Jan-Patrick Schmitz.

The Statue of Liberty is one of New York's greatest beacons of hope and freedom, which the city so proudly represents. Montblanc celebrates Lady Liberty with a Limited Edition writing instrument, continuing the brand's dedication to writing culture.
