An Open Letter to England on the Plight of Malala Yousafzai: A Return to Certain Death

To the government of the United Kingdom:

It is reported in the CBS article, "Hero's reception" awaits Pakistani teen back home, that 15-year-old Malala Yousafzai will be returned to the place where she was almost executed. For some, this may appears as a hero's welcome; but to most of the world, this is an ominous sign of her fate: certain death.

How could England return this child to a certain death? The Taliban is an unforgiving bunch. They do not respect the lives of girls and women. For a girl or woman to exercise her need to voice an original idea or opinion is risky business. This is what Malala Yousafzai experienced and payback was a bullet in the head. Returning Malala to those who attempted to murder her reeks of murderous success. The Taliban will finally get the job done (http://www.cbsnews.com/video/watch/?id=50133514n&tag=contentMain;contentBody).

Her only desire was to share the plight of her people through music and rap. The Taliban abhors women who publically entertain. For her entertainment and creative talents, Malala Yousafzai was shot in the head.

It is clear that outsiders do not have control of this child's destiny. However, the writing is on the wall. The Taliban does not forget. The Taliban does not forgive. The Taliban does neither care nor love girls nor women. The Taliban sees Malala as chattel to dispose of how and when they deem fit.

Malala Yousafzai is the face of the world's daughters. Her passion for freedom and fair treatment is in the hearts of our daughters. Her desire to live a life void of retaliation is the desires of our daughters. Malala's right to live her passion is the right of our daughters as well. It's a terrifying notion that her physicians have spent long hours, energy, and skill to save her life. Now, Malala will be returned into the hands of her attempted murderers.

As the world nervously stands by and watches from afar, we hope and pray Malala Yousafzai will be safe from harm. It's as though the world is screaming at Malala Yousafzai and her guardians to warn them of the fast approaching freight train, but Malala cannot be saved. This train wreck is inevitable.
