Struggling Philly High School Will Never Be the Same After Drake’s Big Contribution

Drake's new recording studio won't be built at a plush Hollywood locale, but on the premises of a struggling Philadelphia high school, where he aims to drive students toward a better future.

After watching Diane Sawyer's report for "Nightline" about Strawberry Mansion High, considered one of the most dangerous schools in the country, the 27-year-old Grammy winner felt compelled to do something to help. Something unforgettable.

"I caught this piece that Diane did, and I was like by the end of it, I was so heavily affected that at the end I started questioning, like, major aspects of my life. It just really changed a lot about me," the rapper told ABC News.

Strawberry Mansion High School is situated in one of the worst parts of Philly. According to the report, the neighborhood has the highest number of murders, rapes and assaults in the city, and 40 percent of residents live in poverty. Ninety-six percent of students at Strawberry Mansion High are impoverished. Some are scared to go to school, and one teacher commented that only one out of 70 parents showed up for parent-teacher conferences.

Yet many students want something better for their lives. In fact, the school, which almost shut down over a year ago, doesn't have a music teacher, but a few teens meet regularly to sing. One serves as a pianist while the others gather around to practice their melodies.

As Drake undoubtedly knows the value of an opportunity, the "Started from the Bottom" rapper has decided to build a recording studio at the high school for students to use. He even dropped by to tell them himself.

"This is about you," he announced. "This is about your principal. This is about your future. I love you. I care about you. I want to see you succeed."

Talking one-on-one with a few others, Drizzy commented, "I'ma be here for you, I promise. Look me in my eyes. I got you."

Thank him now… go ahead.
