Teaching Conan O'Brien to Bellydance on Live TV

I was at the US Embassy in Kuwait when a producer from the Conan O'Brien TV show called early one Tuesday morning. She asked, "Would I fly 6384 miles to appear on his late night show that Thursday?" "Absolutely," I answered and packed my suitcase. I have appeared on literally hundreds of TV shows to promote my fitness, bellydance and women's empowerment books and workout DVDs. I've shimmied with Regis, undulated with the women on The View and taught Carrie and Miranda on Sex and the City to awaken their Goddess within. However nothing would impress my boyfriend more than me teaching Conan to bellydance on live TV. Everyone was very excited for me. As soon as my plane landed, I was whisked immediately to the studio for a rehearsal. This was not an ordinary rehearsal. Directly after I introduced myself and began to discuss my ideas, he said, "No…save it for the show." Conan is a consummate comedian and he prefers to keep his jokes spontaneous. He did not want to know what I was going to teach him, see what costume I was going to wear or anything I had discussed over the phone while I was in Kuwait with his producers. Following our friendly greeting, I was escorted to my private dressing room to change into my champagne beaded bellydance costume. I perform and teach bellydance to royalty, celebrities and the girl-next-door. But I have never had an experience like this before or since. I waited behind the curtain as Conan held up my recent Goddess Workout Bellydance DVD and introduced me to his viewers. Then I entered the stage and what I had done normally hundreds of times with other hosts to promote my DVDs was transformed into hilarious sketch comedy. It was magic. This is because Conan is simply brilliant. We had amazing chemistry and it was if everything we said had been previously written. I dressed him in a coined hipscarf, wrapped him in a veil and created his bellydance name, 'Conando'. I taught him several bellydance moves that made the audience howl with laughter. But it was when I taught 'Conando' how to have a sexy face that the audience was screaming with laughter. The segment was such a hit, that he kept the bit going in the next night's opening monologue and throughout the show.
