Take Time for Fall Reflection

A Zen Approach to Success & Money

Maybe it's because it's the start of a new school year, but the fall has always signified to me a time of reflection and new beginnings. As we enter the busiest - and also one of the most beautiful - times of the year, autumn is the perfect time to really check in with ourselves and set our outlook for the rest of the year.

Whether it's your finances that you're looking to change, or just everyday life that needs a little adjustment, resetting our state of mind is key. Check out these Buddha inspired tips to help you reach your goals while stopping to smell the roses!

Stop Playing To The End Game

They always say it's the journey that really matters in the end, right? Well, it's true. Whether your goal is to make more money or hike the Appalachian Trail, many of us become so fixated on trying to reach our goals that we forget to pay attention to the baby steps we need to take to successfully reach the finish line. When we become so focused on our end game, we lose sight of what is happening right in front of us, and often we lose ourselves in the process.

Are You Missing Out?

The truth is, when we only think about the 'what ifs', and focus solely on the future, we miss out on all of the magical and telling moments that not only make life more enjoyable and interesting, it these very moments that hold the clues we need to fulfill our dreams.

Here's a money example… If you're trying to save $1,000, but you're waiting for a bonus from a client that may never come, start paying attention to where you can save a few bucks each day. Instead of buying your morning latte and catching the bus across town to the office, why don't you brew a to-go cup of Joe at home, put on some comfortable shoes, and walk through the park to work. Not only will you save your first $5 bucks to put towards your goal, you'll get some exercise while enjoying a much less hectic commute. Plus, you never know what may happen along the way!

Be Ever Present

It's difficult to be happy and find true success without having solid relationships. So, how do you build more meaningful friendships? Be as present as possible when you're with your friends, your partner, in a meeting, or on the phone. You'd be shocked how few people really listen to what others have to say. Those who do not only reach their goals faster, they also have more sincere friendships and a stronger support system to show for it.

Take Five

So, this fall carve out at least five minutes each day to clear your mind and focus on nothing. You'll be surprised just how quickly your peaceful thoughts of empty space fill with the stress of your never ending to-do-list. But if you practice, soon you'll find that a few minutes of mental silence will lead to a whole lot more self awareness, efficiency and peace of mind!

Here's to a full and meaningful fall!
