VIDEO: Care Tips for Ombré Hair

By Charleen Gonzalez for Shine Latina

Sulfate-free and safe for treated hair
It's still important to use a shampoo safe for color-treated hair even though you only have the lower layer colored. And since you're going to have a good portion of your hair bleached, it's a good idea to use a sulfate-free shampoo to keep your hair's natural moisture.

I love the Balm En Root Shampoo & Conditioner, $15 each. Also, using a leave-in conditioner will help the health of your hair over time and keep your ends from splitting. Try a keratin-infused formula like It's a 10 Miracle Leave-in Plus Keratin treatment spray, $11, which will restore the moisture and keratin that was compromised during the bleaching process.

At-home ombré kit

Don't want to spend the big bucks to get the ombré style? The L'Oreal Paris Feria Wild Ombré at-home kit will attain the same effect at a fraction of the salon price.

It's easy to use. All you have to do is mix the dye and developer together and apply a squirt of the product into a brush that's provided. Then brush the dye into your hair where you want the ombré effect. You decide how intense you want your ombré by applying more or less of the dye.
