VIDEO: Textured or Matte? Nail Trends for Spring and Summer

By Charleen Gonzalez for Shine Latina

Textured nail polishes are the hot trend for the spring and summer seasons. They're easy ways to have nail art without having to spend the extra time. And matte-finish nail polishes are the modern alternative to traditional, shiny-finish products.

Check out my picks for both trends below.

Zoya PixieDust
Zoya has one of the most-innovative nail-effect polishes. The PixieDust collection features a matte, sugary look. It feels a little like soft sand applied to your nails. The polishes are long-wearing, fast-drying, and do not require a base or top coat. My absolute favorite is Godiva, $9, the perfect soft-nude color packed with sugary sparkle.

Nails Inc. London

One of my favorites is the Feathers Effect Nail Polish, $9.50, which has tiny feather-like particles in complementary colors to create a quill effect on the nails. The polish in Brighton has teal and yellow flecks that gives a pretty pop of color to your nails. The polish can be worn by itself, but I recommend layering it over a similar color or a white base.

Another fun one is the Leather Effect Nail Polish, $11. This unique polish has a matte finish that looks and feels like leather. It's great for nights out and for edgy girls. Nails Inc. also has a Bling It on Kit, $25, that includes Swarovski crystals and a 3-D crystal skull for the ultimate rock-star look.

Now, in terms of colors for spring and summer, mint greens and bright yellows and pinks are the statement. Try Nails Inc. Spring Summer Trend Polish in Botanical Gardens, $9.50, for the perfect mint green, and the St. James Park, $9. 50, for a bright pop of pink.
