Beauty Guru: My 2013 Beauty Resolutions

This year I've thought a lot regarding my resolutions. Like so many others, I can dedicate myself to these new-found goals for about a month, then I'm over it. I plan to change all of that. I plan to change a lot of things, actually.

I recently watched this documentary on Netflix called "Hungry for Change". At the risk of sounding insanely cliche, it changed my life. It explains how "food-like products" have been ruining our bodies and our health.

So this year, my beauty resolutions will be aimed at making myself beautiful from the inside out.

1.) JUICING

The next day after watching that show I bought a juicer (this is the one I bought). I started detoxifying my body, slowly weening myself off of sugars, bleached flour and endless man-made chemicals. It's only day six, and I feel amazing.

Juicing is a lifestyle I wish to have. I eat healthy and I replace one meal a day with a nutrient-loaded juice. I'm starting to look at my eating habits as an addiction. And one day at a time, becoming healthier.

I also started drinking more water. Water is a wonderful and EASY beauty tip. It'll make your hair grow healthier and longer and brighten your skin.

"Freshly extracted vegetable juices benefit the body by feeding the cells with the power of living enzymes, which helps the body heal itself in part by strengthening the organs. Most people forget that the skin is the largest organ in the body - it only makes sense that the goodness fresh juices offer would benefit this part of the body, too." (Source )

2.) STOP WEARING FOUNDATION/POWDER/CONCEALER

Yes, this may be hard to believe. But I found that the more I conceal my blemishes, the more blemishes I have. Then, I need more make-up. Hm, what's going on here? Dare I say it's a conspiracy from the make-up manufacturers?

One rule I've started to follow is - If I don't know what it is, don't put it on or in my body.

For example, here is a list of ingredients in Revlon Colorstay Make-Up:

Aqua/Water/Eau (Water), Cyclomethicone, Trimethylsiloxysilicate, Butylene Glycol, Boron Nitrate, Dimethicone, Alcohol Denat., Nylon 12, PEG/PPG 18/18 Dimethicone, Tribehenin, Isododecane, Polyisobutene, Sodium Chloride, Cetyl/PEG/PPG 10/1 Dimethicone, Bisabolol (L-Alpha), Serica (Silk Powder), Tocopheryl Acetate (Vitamin E), Malva Sylvestris (Mallow) Flower Extract (Mallow), Lilium Candidum (White Lily) Bulb Extract (Lily), Lactobacillus/Eriodictyon Californicum Ferment Extract, Cymbidium Grandiflorum Flower (Orchid) Extract, Alumina, Dimethicone/Silsesquioxane Copolymer, Polydimethylsiloxane/Polymethysilesquioxane Copolymer, Ethylene Brassylate, Methicone, Trisiloxane, Sorbitan Sesquioleate, Tetrasodium EDTA, Methylparaben, Propylparaben, May Contain (+/-):, Mica, Titanium Dioxide (CI 77891), Iron Oxides (CI 77491, CI 77492, CI 77499)

Um, what? If the names alone do not frighten you, then check this out. Polydimethylsiloxane is a critical component of Rain-X. Yes, that stuff that waterproofs your windshield. Boron Nitrate is used in microwave-transparent windows and laser printers. Hardly anything close to beauty.

I don't know about you, but these things just scare me to death. I want to make my life more natural and, in so doing, healthy.

So in 2013, I will work on buying more mineral make-up and perhaps make a few of my own concoctions!

3.) STOP BITING MY NAILS

I started this goal at the end of November. Nail biting is something I've done since I can remember, so about 24 years. I've done great so far! I haven't bitten in 7 weeks. Check out some of my anti-biting tips! I hope to keep this trend going.

4.) GROW MY HAIR OUT

I have been working on this goal since December 2010! And it is so very difficult. At that time, I had a 3-inch long pixie cut. Since then, my hair is past my shoulders and thicker than ever. I'd like to see my hair down past my chest by Christmas!

In order to achieve that I drink a lot of water, juice, do yoga, and take a lot of vitamins. The staple in my hair regiment is taking Biotin every day (5,000 mcg). I also use a sunflower-oil-based hair conditioning mist. Shikai is my favorite! I also use wide-tooth combs to prevent breakage.

In order to keep all of these fresh in my mind, I am making an inspiration board. I'm using an old art canvas to create a collage of quotes, pictures and goals! I am hanging it up in front of my morning make-up station so I see it every day.

What are you beauty resolutions for 2013? How you plan on maintaining them? I'd love to hear your thoughts!
