Beauty Guru: 5 Beauty Products that Always Get Packed for Vacation

Thanks to my job as a freelance writer, I'm able to travel a lot. And since I live in the very hot desert, I find myself traveling more often in an attempt to escape summer's scorching temps.

Whether I'm road tripping it a few hours away, zooming across the Atlantic for an international vacay or visiting friends in San Francisco or NYC, I always get a little pre-packing anxiety. I'm sure that anyone who's traveled is far too familiar with the "What if I need this?" and "What if I need that?" questions that run through your head as you're packing your bags. Because I do get to travel somewhat frequently, I've sort of figured out exactly what I need.

Today I'm sharing my summer vacation must-haves; my five essential beauty goods that I absolutely must bring with me to any and all destinations. Like children, I cannot claim to have a favorite, so here they are in no particular order:

Make Up Forever High Definition Powder

This is the stuff of the makeup gods. It's a setting powder you apply with a fat brush after you've applied all your makeup that keeps everything in place without feeling heavy. I especially love it when I have a full day of sight seeing or visiting ahead of me, particularly in summer months when makeup is more likely to sweat off.

Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Dry Touch Sunblock SPF 70

If you're like me, you tend to spend more time outside when you're on vacation. I have both a mini version and a big bottle of Neutrogena's Ultra Sheer Dry Touch Sunblock, but I reserve the smaller container for my travels. It's light enough to apply to your face, but the SPF of 70 will keep you extra protected. I always apply it to any area of exposed skin when I'm outside.

Alfaparf Milano Semi Di Lino Diamante Cristalli Liquidi Serum

My wavy/curly hair is prone to frizzing out, especially in humid summer climates. This serum has been a favorite for a while because I love the cologne-like scent and the formula is brilliant, to boot. Hair absorbs this product quickly, which helps eliminate the poof-effect my mane sometimes takes on. It's also compact, making it ideal for travel.

Jonathan Product Green Rootine Dry Shampoo

Let's face it. When you're on vacation, it's a huge hassle to wash your hair. I stick to washing every 2 to 3 days when at home, but on vacation I tend to stretch out my hair washing sessions even further. For a quick fix, I'll just wash the hair around my face to nix any greasy-looking locks and then apply this amazing, award winning dry shampoo to other areas. Bonus: They make this product in three shades: for blondes, brunettes and red heads.

Dr. Jart+ Black Label Detox BB Cream

I'm partial to sheer coverage over anything extremely heavy. Even on days when I need a little blemish control, I wear Dr. Jart+'s BB cream and then spot conceal as necessary. This product is creamy and light, a rare combination, and actually feels like it's doing your skin a major favor while you're wearing it, unlike some products that you can't wait to wash off at the end of the day. It leaves skin looking even, radiant, blemish free and healthy.
