To say that I simply have combination skin is a bit misleading. The truth is, I have combination skin with eczema. My eczema has caused me to make some changes to the old routine I had. When it comes to daily skin care, I have to be careful with my fragile skin. Here is my daily routine that can be useful to you if you have sensitive skin as well.
In the Morning
I wash my face with Noxzema Original Face Cream most days; however, during the summer I sometimes have to switch to Peter Thomas Roth's Anti-Aging Cleansing Gel to help with oil control. For gentle exfoliation, I use crochet cosmetic rounds, washing my face in a circular motion, and then rinsing with cold water.
I use two different moisturizers: one for the cold weather months and another for warm weather. During the cold months, I love Simple's Replenishing Rich Moisturizer. In warmer weather, I fell in love with Aveeno Active Naturals Clear Complexion Daily Moisturizer. It contains salicylic acid to help prevent breakouts but it also controls scaling from my eczema.
In the Evening
My evening routine changes slightly depending on if I am removing makeup or not. If I did not wear makeup that day, I will wash with Noxzema and then moisturize with Burt's Bees Intense Hydration Night Cream. I only use a little of this because the cream is so rich.
If I wore makeup that day I use Peter Thomas Roth cleanser, followed by a second washing with Noxzema to make sure my face is free of all makeup. Then I apply my night moisturizer. I use a little more on these nights to balance the effects of the extra face washing.
Beyond The Daily Routine
I also have a weekly regimen that complements my daily one. I exfoliate my face and apply a clay mask once a week. I am not loyal to any particular brand for this. Twice a week I use Biore Pore Strips on my nose and chin to remove the gunky stuff that leads to blackheads. I also use an acne treatment (usually whatever one is on sale) when I have a breakout.
This is the basic daily routine I follow with a few weekly extras thrown in for good measure. I have to keep things pretty simple. If I do not, my skin will rebel and cause havoc. I absolutely cannot have that happen!
