Beauty Guru: Don't Leave Home Without These 5 Summer Beauty Essentials

I used to pack based on some travel advice I read in the "Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy." My packing list consisted of two items: a towel and a toothbrush. While I still believe in traveling light and fast, my list of "travel must-haves" has grown to seven. In addition to the towel and toothbrush, I have added my five essential summer beauty items, because no matter where I go in this universe, I want to look and feel my best. Don't you?

Protect your skin:

No matter where I go this summer, I know I need to protect my skin from the sun. That is why L'Oreal Sublime Sun is number one on my list.

It provides a Skin Protection Factor (SPF) of 50. I like the silky way it feels when I apply it. It is absorbed quickly and doesn't leave my skin feeling oily or greasy. It costs $9.99 at Target and ULTA.

Clean, exfoliate and rejuvenate your skin:

Keeping my face clean and gently exfoliating off dull skin and travel grime is a must for me. I have large pores. When dirt is trapped in them, they look like craters on the moon. I can accomplish both with one product, St. Ives Exfoliating Pad.

My face and neck feel so smooth and my pores are clean. I remove what I need for the trip from the jar and put them into a snack bag that zips shut. The pads are $4.99 at Target.

My favorite travel mask is Glacial Clay Spa with cloudberries. I don't know if cloudberries grow on clouds or not, but this mask is out of this world. It is a single use mask that comes in foil packet and fits easily into any overstuffed bag. It is available at ULTA for $2.49.

Use makeup sparingly:

I have been cooped and covered up for months, so during the summer I don't want to wear anything heavy. This is especially true for my makeup. I do want to look natural but better, so I use Estee Lauder's Mascara and Maybelline Baby Lips.

I use just a touch of the mascara on the lashes at the outer edges of my eyes. Estee Lauder's Sumptuous Extreme Mascara adds volume to your lashes without making them into tarantula legs and costs $26 on Estee Lauder's website.

I wear Maybelline Baby Lips in "peach kiss" all year long, but during the summer, I appreciate it the most. This lip balm soothes, protects with SPF 20, and tastes good. You can find it at Target for $2.99.
