Beauty Guru: Summer beauty tips and tricks

Beauty Tips

Summertime brings about new problems other seasons can mask in regards to the beauty routine. In the winter, your makeup is unlikely to melt off your face but in summer this can definitely occur. Springtime brings about allergies and puffy eyes that need to be reduced and in the fall, hair sometimes falls limp.

Here are a couple of tips and tricks to help you on your way in the summertime heat!

Lighten Up On the Foundation:

During other months, a heavier foundation can lock in moisture and smooth out uneven skin tone. If you decide to apply this foundation in the summer as you would in others seasons, you may be in for a serious fail. When the temperature rises, foundation is known to run off your face creating rivers and streams; while beautiful in nature, not so much when on your face.

What to Do:

Switch to a foundation made for the heat. A couple I recommend would be Almay's Smart Shade ($9.99), Clinique's Moisture Surge Tinted Moisturizer SPF 15 ($27) or Philosophy's Supernatural Airbrushed Canvas SPF 15 ($35). Apply as your normally would with a wet sponge and blend.

Sooth Dry Skin with Cucumbers:

My feet get so dry during this time of the year. I attribute to walking around without shoes as a major culprit. When the sheets are sticking and picking at your dry feet, it's time for a major overhaul.

What to Do:

My mother swears by this trick and I will back her up on it. Any ole cucumber from the farmer's market or your neighborhood grocer will do. Cut it up into thin slices and rub directly into your feet. You can also use the cucumber on any dry spot you have. Use it on your elbows or your face. Make sure you wash the area you are applying the cucumber before and after the application.

Pump It Up:

Hair falls flat and clings to your head during the dog days of summer. The humidity knocks mine down flat in an instant. Boost up the volume and let those heads turn!

What to Do:

Add large rollers two inches from your roots. Spray with hairspray. I love L'Oreal Elnlet Satin Extra Hold Hairspray. Blow dry on high. Once your hair is dry unroll and swing out your hair. Volume has been restored.

Beauty routines change with the season. Keeping a couple of tricks under your sleeve will make the transition much easier. A tip I never forget in the summer is wearing a visor, applying sunscreen and wearing bug eyed glasses. This too me is the best trick I ever learned. If your face is lighter than your body use a bronzer to even things out.
