Beauty Guru: Tricks I Use to Save My Face in the Summer Heat

Soaking in Vitamin D and splashing around in the pool. Hoping the perfect face I created does not melt. Yep, I'm speaking about summertime and it is not far away. Already my neck of the woods has had some summer-like weather that forced me to start using my summer beauty tricks a couple of months early. Let me share a few of them with you.

Cleansing Tricks: Noxzema Mask and My Homemade Toner

I start the day with a Noxzema facial. I smooth the cream over my face a little thicker than I normally do for a wash and let it sit for five minutes. I take my crochet cosmetic disc (you can use a washcloth as well) and begin to rub my face in tiny circular motions to loosen dirt and lightly exfoliate. I rinse my face with cold water to help tighten my pores. Plus, if it gets warm early in the day, that cold water refreshes your skin. If I am breaking out, I will follow with my homemade Apple Cider Vinegar and Chamomile Toner to reduce the redness and calm my skin.

Moisturize Even in the Summer

I have combination skin that gets really oily in the summer. However, I still must moisturize. I use a light moisturizer, Aveeno Active Naturals Clear Complexion Daily Moisturizer. It absorbs quickly. I typically only need to wait about three minutes before I move on to my next step.

Base Tricks: A Good Primer and Concealer

I used to think primer was just a hyped up product to make more money for cosmetic companies. However, Smashbox made a believer out of me! It's my secret weapon for reducing the appearance of my pores and keeping me shine-free all day long. So, I just wear the primer and maybe concealer if I have dark under eye circles to cover.

Makeup Tricks: Prime the Eyes and Go Light on the Lips

When it comes to makeup in the summer, I use a light hand. First, I tend to stay away from foundation and use bronzer to color my cheeks and give me a little glow. I swear by eyeshadow primer to prevent my eyeshadow from creasing, melting, and disappearing. For lips, I stick with sheer glosses primarily. However when I do wear lipstick, I line, apply, blot, then reapply to make the color last and prevent feathering.

With primers, it is pretty easy to keep your makeup from pulling a disappearing act on you. So find one that works for you and it will be your best trick for beating the summer heat. Dusting your face with a face powder or using bronzer will also help things under control. If all other tricks fail, blot that oil, sweat, and shine away!
