How to Choose the Right Hair Color for You

The perfect hair color highlights your skin tone and makes your eyes stand out. But, which color is right for you: bright blonde, bold brunette, or radiant red? Here we reveal a few tips to help you discover which hair color suits you best.

You'd be a Perfect Brunette if…

  • You prefer a super low maintenance morning routine each day. Unlike most other colors, it's pretty easy to keep brown hair shiny. Plus, at-home coloring kits work best for brunettes so monthly coloring bills won't break the bank.

  • You're hair is naturally limp or heavily damaged. Brown hides bad hair breakage and reflects light best.

  • You have a yellow-based complexion. If you go too yellow or light, you'll look sallow. Try a deep chestnut along with a couple cinnamon highlights around your face to help neutralize the yellow undertones.

You'd be a Perfect Blonde if…

  • You were born with blonde or dark blonde hair, regardless of your color today. If your hair was blonde as a child then chances are your complexion will still compliment blonde locks now.

  • You don't mind dropping serious cash to maintain the upkeep of your hair. Highlighting is time intensive and expensive. Highlights, which are typically done every eight to12 weeks, can cost between $100 and $300 per salon visit-not cheap!

  • You have light eyes. Women with dark eyes should avoid going too blonde because deep eye colors look too heavy against pale or ash blonde hair.

  • You have short hair. Have you noticed that the chicest short 'dos are blondes? It's because stylists can play up texture and shape easier with blonde highlights than with darker hues.

You'd be a Perfect Redhead if…

  • You're skin is pink or flushes easily. Women with cool or pinkish skin tones pull red off easiest. Golden skins tones have the hardest time.

  • You don't mind being the center of attention. Because once you go red, you'll be turning heads everywhere you go. The redheads always get noticed. Always.

  • Your hair is in great condition. Red hair coloring is comprised of super small molecules-which means if your hair is damaged, the color will fade quickly. Beauty note: if you decide to go red, deep condition your hair weekly; it will help keep the color vibrant longer.

  • You have green or blue eyes. Red hair looks the best on women with light eyes and cool complexions.

You'd be Perfect with Jet Black Hair if…

  • You have a little color in your complexion. (Think Megan Fox and Catherine Zeta-Jones.) If you're too pale, you'll end up looking like a china doll-which may or may not be good depending on your preferred look.

  • Your hair has a lot of natural sheen. Jet-black hair looks the best when it's super shiny-and that's hard to fake.

  • You're okay with the fact you can't color over it. Unfortunately, if you don't like it, you're pretty much stuck. It'll have to grow out before you can do much about the color. And that can a take a looooooong time.
