Holiday Party Makeup Fixes that Everyone Needs to Know

By Elizabeth Siegel,Allure magazine

Holiday parties inevitably involve a few unfortunate gaffes, and while we can't do much beyond sympathize over the glass of red wine upended on your new white blouse or the unfortunate text you just sent your ex-boyfriend, we can offer you advice on how to correct the makeup smears and smudges that occur sometime between the second and third glass of champagne.

1. Creased eye shadow. Brushing more powder on top tends to look blotchy, so carry a pearlescent cream shadow in taupe, bronze, or gold in your purse for touch-ups. After blotting away creases with your fingertip, dab a bit of new shadow over the center of your lid and under your brow bone to brighten up your eyes.

2. Smeared eyeliner or mascara.
Attempting to rub away smudges or flakes with your fingers can make matters works. Instead, camouflage migrating makeup with a flesh-colored pencil.

3. Disappearing lipstick. Swipe clear gloss on top to revive the color, no mirror required.

4. Pale complexion.
If you can only touch-up one item of makeup, rub a cream blush (or in a pinch, cherry or orange-based red lipstick) into the apples of your cheeks. It will brighten up your whole look, even if your eye shadow and lipstick has faded.

5. Shiny skin.
Skip powder (adding a second coat during the night can look cakey) and use blotting papers instead. Try Clean & Clear Oil Absorbing Sheets.
