Makeup trends for fall

As we transition our clothing from summer to fall, beauty experts say our makeup should change as well. And because Shine readers love to stay on top of the latest beauty ideas, The Shine’s enlisted the help of Erik Soto, Sephora PRO Lead Artist to reveal the top fall makeup trends. Starting with the eyes. Erik says purple, smokey eyes will be a fall favorite. “It’s like the new nudes, because purple goes with brown eyes, it makes them look lighter. And then with blue or green, it’s on the opposite side of the color wheels, so it’s very complimentary”. Another trend to expect this season; well-defined eyes. For this, Erik says you’ll need a black liner in either a liquid or a pencil. For a liquid liner, Erik recommends the Christian Dior Style Liner. A great pencil eyeliner? Erik likes the Givenchy Kohl Eye Liner, because it’s “soft” and “smudgeable”. As far as skin goes, this fall matte skin is in, and according to Erik you get it by using medium to full coverage foundation. Erik likes Kat Von D’s Lock it Foundation. “When you’re working on matte skin, you don’t want it to appear flat. Before you even start the foundation, it’s important to start with a good primer.” Erik says using a primer will help to erase fine lines, pores and wrinkles. Now when it comes to lips this fall, red is the color of the season according to Erik. “Red is classic for the holidays. Nothing says power for a woman like a red lipstick.” But, if you’re not brave enough to rock a red lipstick, Erik recommends a matte lip color mixed with your favorite lip balm. Finally, Erik says expect a resurgence of nails this season. What’s in? Metallic nails. “Metallic is the trend. So whatever you want it to be; blue, green, purple, pink- whatever you want it to be as long as it’s metallic, you are in trend.” Those metallic colors will always catch the eye, and Erik says, “It’s like diamonds for your nails.”
