Modern Family's Sofia Vergara on Beauty, Workouts, and the Benefits of Being a CoverGirl

Modern Family's Sofia Vergara is as gorgeous as she is hilarious. (See evidence of both in this picture of her celebrating her show's Golden Globe nomination with cake at 5AM.) So we were delighted to chat up the spokesmodel for CoverGirl & Olay BlastFlipstick, a dual-sided lipstick (one side is color, the other a shimmering shade) about all things beauty.

What's your workout these days? "I'm not very good with working out-it's never been one of my favorite things. So the only way for me to do it is to have a trainer to be after me. If I do it alone, I sabotage myself. I met Gunnar Peterson early this year and now I work out with him; it's great because I don't have to think, I don't have to count. We do one hour at least, whenever I'm free-two times a week, three times a week, if I'm really lucky four-we do weights, and little bit of cardio."
Do you and Gloria have similar styles? "She can wear stuff that I'm a little bit too scared to wear-clothes that are more fitted, more jewelry. It's the same with makeup-more colors; I'll match the lipstick with the shirt or the lipstick with the nails. I'm always fun with her."
When were you first allowed to wear makeup? "I'm Latin, so it's very normal when you're 14, 15, to put on some blush, some mascara, lip gloss. My mother always did her makeup, and I'd always watch her. It's part of growing up for a Latin woman."
Any Colombian beauty secrets to share? "I would never be without lipstick. I remember my mother would always tell me, 'Put some lipstick on.' Because you look well put-together. And I realize, all my Colombian friends are like that."
Who has a beauty look you really admire? "Sophia Loren-without makeup, you wouldn't even recognize her."

What's the sexiest makeup? Big lashes. And the good thing is you apply mascara and it lasts, it's not like lipstick that you have to reapply during the day. And I can't live without it, because my eyelashes are blonde."
The new CoverGirl Flipstick that you're in the ads for is all about mixing a lip color and a shimmer. Do you ever mix other makeup? "I mix foundation with moisturizer so it becomes lighter on my skin for the daytime."
Have you multi-tasked with any beauty products? "I've used lipstick as blush. I've used brow filler as eyeliner-one time I smudged mascara as eyeliner."
What beauty products do you carry in your bag? "I will have lipstick always. Not a lot-just the color that I'm wearing. And I have powder for the shine. Right now I'm using CoverGirl Simply Ageless pressed powder because I get a lot of stuff [as a spokesmodel]. Before I had to go to the drugstore and pick, now I get to try them all."
