Wacoal iPant claims to make wearers permanently slimmer. Photo via NordstromShapewear doesn't always live up to its promises, according to a pair of unsatisfied customers. Massacusetts residents Annique Bellot and Tara Stefani have filed a class action lawsuit against both Maidenform and Wacoal for what they say are false claims about the products' permanent results.

In the suit, the women claim that Wacoal's $60 iPant and Maidenform's $38 Flexees Instant Slimmer products mislead customers by promising to “permanently change women’s body shape and skin tone.” Both products are made with a nylon microfiber fabric called Novarel Slim, produced by a Spanish company called Nurel. Bellot and Stefani say they paid up to 50 percent premiums for this type of shapewear and were led on by false advertising. The iPant, for example claims it will “reshape your lower body in 28 days with lasting results,” according to the lawsuit, by releasing "ingredients into your skin while you move"

    (Courtesy of Dermablend)

Recently, cosmetics ads have come under scrutiny for promoting the unattainable notion of "flawless" beauty through retouched images and postproduction magic. But Dermablend Professional, a corrective cosmetics brand that specializes in foundations and concealers, has taken the opposite approach, and the results are inspiring.

  • Why Everyone Wants a Piece of 92-Year-Old Style Icon Iris Apfel

Fashion legend Iris Apfel at the HSN Fashion Week Lounge in February. Photo by Brad Barket/Getty Images for HSNOne of the most famous women in fashion, Iris Apfel, is doing the unthinkable: unloading 800 of her prized possessions, collected from a lifetime of shopping. The 92-year-old surprised everyone when she announced that she'd be selling her museum-quality jewelry and home decor directly to the public via the Internet, rather than through a private auction.

Apfel became a recognizable face thanks to a string of Old Navy commercials, but she's much more than a campy icon in a killer pair of glasses. Apfel began her lengthy career in the fashion industry at the industry trade paper Women's Wear Daily, also working with an interior designer and illustrator. She had an eye for style from the beginning, growing up the daughter of a fashion boutique owner in Queens, New York. In 1948, she married Carl Apfel, and two years later they founded the international textile firm, Old World Weavers, which they ran until they left the

  • Is This Marc Jacobs Dress Really Worth $28,000?

This Marc Jacobs dress costs more than a car! Photo by Neilson Barnard/Getty ImagesOver the years, New York Fashion Week has morphed from an elite industry event showcasing the city's most acclaimed designers, to a massive street-style circus with runway shows that are live streamed around the world. But that doesn't mean the garments have become any more attainable for the average woman. In fact, one Marc Jacobs dress from the designer's fall 2014 collection is available by special order and may cost more than your annual salary.

Anyone wishing to purchase the Puffy Clouds Embroidery Dress (pictured at left) must be willing to shell out a whopping $28,000. (No, we didn't accidentally add an extra zero.) Here's the justification, according to The Cut: Each individual flower on this dress is made of organza and hand-filled with three meters of yarn to create a pillowy look. The flowers were then crafted into fabric, as commissioned by Marc Jacobs's design studio, and it took three people an entire week to make it. The

  • Have a Nice Day? Not With This Ridiculous $4,000 Tote

This new designer tote costs over $4k. Photo by Anya Hindmarch Typically we run across the iconic smiley face telling us to "have a nice day" in a simple and cheap way: on plastic takeout bags. But now, British designer Anya Hindmarch has gone and ruined the poor guy's friendly image forever, stamping the famous symbol on a ridiculously high-priced tote. What once was a free bag you might reuse to carry your lunch to work has now been transformed into a $4,158 designer purse. For real.

  • Kate Middleton’s St. Patrick’s Day Good Luck Charm Goes Way Back

Kate Middleton wearing the famous Cartier shamrock brooch. Photo by Getty ImagesOn St. Patrick's Day this year, Kate Middleton broke one fashion tradition, and kept another going strong. For the past two years, the Duchess of Cambridge has worn the same fit-and-flare Emilia Wickstead coat to celebrate the Irish holiday, but this year she switched it up in an even more flattering green double-breasted Hobbs Persephone wool coat. She completed the look with matching green pumps and a Gina Foster hat (the same one she wore last Christmas), and, perhaps most significantly, a recognizable sparkling Cartier shamrock brooch.

The gold three-leaf shamrock pin, adorned with an emerald stone in the middle, was first worn by Queen Alexandra in 1901. It was then that Alexandra began the tradition of the shamrock ceremony, presenting lucky sprigs to 1st Battalion Irish Guards. (This year Middleton also presented one to the battalion's mascot, Domhnall the Irish wolfhound.) Also of note: The Cartier

  • Kate Moss and Cara Delevingne Star in Burberry Ad. What Took So Long?!

It finally happened: 40-year-old British supermodel Kate Moss and her 21-year-old counterpart, "it" girl Cara Delevingne, are joining forces for the new Burberry campaign. The dream team will be immortalized together — at last — in what's sure to be the most memorable ad of 2014.

Even before designer Karl Lagerfeld declared Cara "the new Kate," the similarities between the two models were obvious. They're both Brits, for starters. They also share the same penchant for partying (sometimes even together), they both have a history of hot rock star ex-boyfriends, they've walked the same runways, and even shot matching covers of Love magazine. There's also the fact that both women have posed for  Burberry in the past. While Moss started posing in the brand's iconic plaid back in 1999, Delevingne is a relative newcomer with her first Burberry campaign in 2010. But these two forces coming together is a modern modeling miracle.

Their upcoming joint venture for a new Burberry fragrance was shot

Adidas Stan Smith sneakers are timeless, but they're suddenly very trendy, too. Photo by AdidasWhen you think of an "it" shoe, designer brands like Christian Louboutin or Prada may come to mind. • How Lupita Nyong'o's Lip Balm Became an Oscar Night Winner

Lupita Nyong'o's Clarins lip gloss sold out overnight. Photo by Getty/ClarinsAs more celebrities become brand ambassadors, paid handsomely to endorse beauty products, it becomes that much more fascinating to see which can't-live-without items are really lurking in their handbags. On Sunday night, the world got to see what the newly crowned best supporting actress Lupita Nyong'o had in hers when she took her lip balm out of her purse as the cameras rolled. During a bit where Oscar host Ellen DeGeneres walked through the audience, using Pharrell Williams's hat to collect money for her spur-of-the-moment pizza party, A-listers from Brad Pitt to Kevin Spacey plunked down some cash. But Nyong'o, who didn't have any bills on her, handed off a small blue tube of Clarins HydraQuench Moisture Replenishing Lip Balm. DeGeneres took it, saying, "Lupita's lip balm! That's worth something!" And she had no idea how right she was.
