  • Cry me a river (in a good way) Channing Tatum and Rachel McAdams team up for "The Vow"

Get out the tissues! You’re going to need 'em. The stars of two infamous tearjerkers, gorgeous Rachel “The Notebook” McAdams and super sexy Channing “Dear John” Tatum, have teamed up for “The Vow,” which opens just in time for Valentine’s Day on February 10. The romantic drama, which happens to be based on a true story, centers around newlyweds, Paige (McAdams) and Leo (Tatum). A car accident leaves Paige in a coma and erases the past five years of their life together-- their whole courtship and marriage-- from her memory. A heart-sick, guitar-strumming Leo has no choice but to make his wife fall in love with him all over again. Lucky girl, we say. We spoke with Tatum and McAdams, and co-star Scott Speedman, who plays Paige’s ex, about working together and their character’s style choices.

  • Top three hairstyles for curly hair

Isn’t it always the case that when it comes to hair, we all want what we don’t have. Brunettes want to be blondes, girls with pin-straight tresses wish they had corkscrew curls, and my curly-haired friends spend more time with a flat iron than they care to admit. What about learning how to maximize the look of your natural texture? In this episode, Herbal Essences celebrity stylist Charles Baker Strahan shows Thread viewer Kate how to make the most of her gorgeous naturally curly locks with three sexy styles. No straightening involved!

    Half up, half down

Start by adding styling mousse to wet hair, then use a small barrel curling iron to accentuate the curls you already have. Brush out the curls to create high volume. The look is a “controlled frizz,” as Charles says. Use a light mist of hairspray to define the ends. Add more definition by adding styling cream to the root, then use bobby pins to pull back the top on both sides. Voila!

  • Ryan Reynolds and Denzel Washington talk Safe House and style

We’ve seen Ryan Reynolds flaunt his sarcastic wit, rock-hard abs and impossibly sexy, furrowed brow in a string of rom-coms of late, but he also looks mighty fine (and convincing) as a gun-toting CIA operative desperately trying to keep a handle on Denzel Washington in "Safe House." The thriller, which opens February 10, is a battle of wits between Matt Weston (Reynolds), an idealistic newbie, and Tobin Frost (Washington), a mind-game-playing agent-turned-fugitive. We spoke to the two stars about their character’s style and why Washington calls Reynolds a “sweetheart”-- despite the real-life black eye Reynolds gave him during filming!

  • Consider the half lash

It does not make sense to me that the same friends who consider mascara as essential as a toothbrush are deathly afraid of fake eyelashes. What is there to be afraid of?? I tell them they are depriving themselves of one of the most fun—not to mention effective—makeup tools available. They say they have their reasons. For one thing, the glue. They don’t want to glue their eyelids together. (This will never happen—it’s not Krazy Glue.) But most of all they don’t want to "look like the guy from 'A Clockwork Orange,'" who only had one lash on, I might add.

Here’s my suggestion: a half strip of lashes.

Some makeup artists prefer individual lashes because they create a more "natural" effect. To me they are also more labor intensive. I prefer the strips for their instant drama. Half lashes are much easier to glue than a full strip-- you can control the placement better-- and they allow you to create volume and length in the outer corner of your eye which is the area that will give you the

  • Our favorite celebrities reveal their go-to black wardrobe staple

We all have them. A favorite black sweater, a black cocktail dress that fits like a glove, boots and blazers that make us feel like we can do anything when we put them on. And the stars have them, too! We asked our favorite leading ladies to share their go-to black wardrobe staple with us. See what Charlize Theron, Melissa McCarthy, Olivia Wilde, Katrina Bowden, and more say is their most prized item.

In one of the many memorable scenes from "Young Adult" (see it now if you haven't already) Charlize Theron suits up for a night out in a black leather jacket that I wish were in my closet right now. Off camera the Oscar winner and Dior spokesmodel confesses that she keeps her black skinny jeans and black boots close at hand. "SNL's" Abby Elliott also can't say enough about her favorite pair of black jeans which look great on fat AND skinny days (totally know what she means.) "Mike & Molly" star Melissa McCarthy, who is designing a line of plus-sized separates, considers a pair of

  • Drew Barrymore and co-stars on their Big Miracle style

If you were to make this story up, people would call it improbable if not impossible. But “Big Miracle,” the new film starring Drew Barrymore and “The Office” hottie John Krasinski, which opens February 3rd, is the true tale of the 1988 mission to save three gray whales off Point Barrow, Alaska which made unlikely partners of the U.S. government, the Soviet Union, Greenpeace and oil-company executives. We spoke to the cast including Drew and John, Kristen Bell, Vinessa Shaw, Dermot Mulroney, and Ted Danson about their characters and the beauty of late '80s fashion, from shoulder-padded blazers to Lee Press-On nails.

  • How to pull off the season's hottest hair trend: sideswept hair

The season’s hottest hair trend can be worn many different ways. Sideswept hair can cascade over your shoulders or be pulled back in a tight, low ponytail. The vibe can be sweet and innocent or sexy and fierce. In this episode, celebrity hair and makeup artist extraordinaire Michiko Boorberg shows us how to create four different sideswept styles for four Thread viewers and we give each of them new looks to match.

When you see a trendy hairstyle, sometimes it seem like you’d need the assistance of a professional (or three) to re-create it. What I love about the sideswept look, in all its permutations, is that it’s shockingly easy to do on your own head! Here are the steps to help you try out four sideswept styles.

    Roughed-up and sexy

To get the right perfectly imperfect texture for this look, prep your hair with spray gel and scrunch it with your hand while blow-drying. Part your hair to the side and use a medium-barrel curling iron to add random waves. When finished, comb

  • The Thread hosts a screening with Drew Barrymore!

This week The Thread invited viewers and friends to meet Drew Barrymore and watch her latest film, “Big Miracle,” an incredible true story about a 1988 mission to save a family of gray whales in Point Barrow, Alaska which opens February 3rd. Drew plays Rachel, a feisty Greenpeace activist (she interrupts meetings with a bullhorn, just to give you an idea), alongside “The Office’s” John Krasinski, who plays a local TV reporter, and Ted Danson as an oil company suit. The gorgeous Golden Globe winner and CoverGirl came by the screening to answer Threaders’ questions and give out some door prizes. See what she had to say about filming in Alaska (fun fact: Footie pajamas are the best way to stay warm), the awesomeness of late ‘80s fashion, and the most important thing she keeps in her makeup bag. Enjoy!

Meeting Drew Barrymore was a particular thrill for me since she is one of my favorite actresses— who else could make movies like “Never Been Kissed,” “Charlie’s Angels," and

  • Winter fashion disasters (and how to fix them)

Right about now, I just want to commit to cozy sweaters and warm baths. It is a challenge to know how to dress when you’re battling your own cocooning instincts as well as the elements but we’ve put together an instruction manual for staying warm AND stylish. In this episode, we’ll show you how to layer up without adding bulk (or ruining your hairstyle) and how to combat other dreaded seasonal hazards like static-prone skirts and salt-stained boots. Watch, and then let us know if you have any tips to add to our list.

When temperatures drop and a belted down comforter starts to seem like a legit fashion option -- well, that’s where we come in. Check out the below tips and let us know if you have some of your own to add.

    Layer without adding bulk

Yes, it is possible. Here’s the plan: a long-sleeved silk shirt + a thin cashmere or merino wool crew-neck sweater + a lightweight scarf + a down or faux fur vest. That’s 4 layers! Wool blend trousers complete the look and give you
