  • We Gave Rihanna's Makeup Artist $100 and This is What She Bought

    By Phillip Picardi
Photo: Splash News, Violet Grey, Target, M.A.C. CosmeticsYes, sure, we all want the beauty secrets of our favorite celebrities. But more importantly, we don't want to break the bank for them! After all, if the secret to pulling off, say, Kristen Stewart's signature smoky eye were to be a $30-something eye pencil, we might not rush out to buy it right away.

Rihanna is one star whose beauty consistently captivates. And her go-to makeup artist, Mylah Morales, has been influential in shaping some of her most iconic looks. So, naturally, we thought it would only be suitable to present her with a challenge: Buy a full face of cosmetics for under $100.

Morales willingly accepted, and provided the right products for a gorgeous, sunkissed look. Check out her picks and tally up her purchases below!

    1. Laura Mercier Oil Free Tinted Moisturizer with SPF 20, $43: "Yes, it's a big splurge," Morales says. (Almost half her budget!) "But, the thing is,

  • Jennifer Lawrence is Growing Her Hair Out in the Cutest Way Possible

    by Casey Lewis

When Jennifer Lawrence chopped off all her hair last year, the collective reaction was a gasping what?! followed immediately by a knowing duh! Because of course Jennifer Lawrence would chop her hair. The question was never if it would happen, but rather when. Sure, the girl knows how to wear a gown, but she's also the tomboy-iest celebrity to walk a red carpet-often in killer heels, no less. She's the epitome of a low-maintenance, tell-it-like-it-is, keep-it-real starlet, and a short, no-frills 'do just makes sense. It was a major change at first that drew polarizing reactions, but after attending a billion premieres for Catching Fire and doing the whole awards season circuit, pretty much everyone had joined Team Pixie.

Well, hopefully you're OK with change, because Jennifer was spotted yesterday rocking a brand-new abbreviated bob. Long gone is the swept-back crop, and in its place is a chic, choppy

  • Yes, You Need to Wear Body Makeup to Prom. Here's How

    by Phillip Picardi

One of the biggest problems people seem to have with makeup is quite simple. Face makeup requires precision, detail, and a close-up mirror, so we can make sure everything is blended and seamless and in its proper place. But once we paint on that final bit of lipstick, carefully tracing our Cupid's bow ever-so-delicately, we slip on our shoes, give our hair a quick preening, and head towards the door. What does that leave you with?

"A floating head," laughs Neil Young, a senior artist at M.A.C. Cosmetics. "You have all sorts of color on the face-blush, bronzer, and foundation-but you haven't even touched your legs, arms, or décolleté." It's a rookie mistake, of course! Certainly you're not hitting the tanning bed before prom (that would be dangerous on top of being dreadful), and how were you to know your face wasn't exactly matching, well, the rest of you?

To help you out (and hopefully avoid a last-minute wrestling match between you, your bronzing powder, and

  • Gel Moisturizers Are the Best for Oily Skin and Here's Why

    by Phillip Picardi

Courtesy of Jason Lloyd-EvansCourtesy of Jason Lloyd-Evans
Backstage at the fall shows, there was a strong emphasis on gorgeous skin. In some cases, in fact, even concealer was meant to be used sparingly. (See The Row, Balmain, Stella McCartney, and Victoria Beckham for examples.) Skin took a leading role in most of the beauty looks, which meant that proper care was necessary, and for many makeup artists that meant whipping out an old staple: Gel moisturizers.

Gel doesn't exactly entice consumers the way it should, but NARS senior artist James Boehmer insisted on it for the looks at Naeem Khan and Creatures of the Wind. "We take our time with the moisturizing process," he said, smoothing a generous amount of NARS Aqua Gel Luminous Moisturizer over a model's cleansed skin. "We're massaging it into the face, which plumps the skin and gives it a beautiful finish."

  • How to Mix and Match Your Perfect Swimsuit (Plus 10 Cool Combos to Get You Started!)

    by Claire Knebl

If you're anything like us, you've got a drawer filled with favorite swimwear from seasons past, ranging anywhere from tie-dyed tops to color blocked bottoms. Well, get this: Those patterned pieces can play a major part in helping you stand out from the crowd this season...in a whole new way. Instead of wearing one straight-from-the-store bikini, we're all about mixing and matching different tops and bottoms to create a unique-to-you look. Not super confident in your print-pairing? Create a cool connection by choosing a common color way or motif.

For example, the micro-print on a Basta Surf top is the perfect pint-size match for bold sea foam green stripes from Target. Tropical florals in varying colors from Pret-a-Surf and Rosa Swim show how to double up on one design, as do spotty separates from Guess and BCA. Of course, we wouldn't expect you to take our word for it-click through to see our favorite 10 bikini pairings for yourself!

  • The Surprising Kitchen Ingredient that Fights Acne

    by Phillip Picardi

True or false: We've tried just about anything and everything when it comes to acne. You name it: charcoal, sulfur, benzoyl peroxide, salicylic acid, oil pulling, and the rest of them. We've even gone out on a more eco-friendly limb, testing things like tea tree oil, rosehip, fruit enzymes, white willow, and blue chamomile. But you know what's funny? It always comes back. No matter how gross our methods get.

But, it turns out there's one ingredient that we've overlooked in the quest for clear, perfect skin. And it's been right under our nose the whole time! Brace yourselves, Twilight fans...are you ready for this one?
