  • Wearing Less Makeup Makes Me Feel More Beautiful

woman wearing makeup woman wearing makeup I have never been the type to spend hours in the bathroom sorting through makeup; putting it on, taking it off, experimenting with new shades. I didn't ever take an active interest in it. As a nurse, my mom rarely wears makeup and none of my grandmothers or aunts are big into vanity. To this day I'm still not totally head over heels for the stuff. I think it looks fake and cake-like.

I didn't even start wearing makeup until my freshman year of college, and even then, I only wanted to wear a little -- nothing anyone could notice. So I guess you could say I subscribe to the whole less is more theory when it comes to foundation, blush, bronzer, and tinted eye shadow. But the truth, my friends, is bigger than that. I think wearing less makeup makes me feel like more of a woman. Boom. Said it.

I feel more natural (duh) and more like myself without layers and layers of gloss and glam

  • 10 Things 'The Bachelor' Has Taught Me About Love

the bachelorettethe bacheloretteHello my name is Stefanie and I'm obsessed with The Bachelor. I'm not sure why, really. But I find myself glued to the television every season. Something about hot, crazy people mixed with Chris Harrison -- I don't know.

Maybe it's ABC's twisted version of how relationships really are. I find myself getting caught up in the drama, the romance, and well ... the bullshit. I've followed the show for years, and let's just say I've picked up quite a few relationship tips along the way. I mean, I should write a book or something.

More from The Stir: 10 Tips For Getting Back Into the Dating Game

So thank you, ABC, for giving me these amazing pearls of relationship wisdom.

    1. Your significant other is allowed to sleep with other girls but ONLY if he proposes to you the following day.

    2. Any serious relationship issue can be resolved with a single rose.

    3. If you don't get enough one-on-one time, kick the guy to the curb.

    4. The best way to get a guy's attention

  • 7 Ways 1st Grade Has Totally Ruined My 'Perfect' Kid

1st day of school1st day of schoolBefore the current school year started, I took a deep breath and told myself that even though my son was joining the ranks of the "big kids" by heading into first grade, there was no way I'd lose the sweet little angel I'd poured six years of hard work into simply because he was growing up.

I'd heard of it happening to other parents, you know, the whole "big kid school ruined my baby" thing, but I figured I'd most likely be an exception to the rule because my little guy is pretty darn awesome.

More from The Stir: 6 Things I'm Sorry for Thinking Before I Became a Mom

Well, I may have had a "not me, not MY kid" mentality back in September, but today? Yeah, I'll admit that first grade has pretty much ruined him and erased a lot of the effort I put in day after day for the past few years.

And I'm not ashamed to say that I miss the hell out of half-day kindergarten right now -- and don't even get me started on what I'd give to be able to send my son back to the land of

  • Parents Name Baby 'Hashtag' & Set Her Up for a Lifetime of Misery

baby facepalmbaby facepalmThese days, it's more of a challenge than ever to think up a creative baby name. What with celebs one-upping each other all over the place and non-celebs, well, also one-upping each other all over the place. But there's a fine line between creative and plain old crazy, and I'm afraid the parents who recently named their newborn baby Hashtag Jameson might have crossed it. Yup, "Hashtag." Yup, after the Twitter thing.

More from The Stir: 13 Hottest Baby Names of 2012

Now, I don't know these people personally. Perhaps this social media term has some deep significance for them. Maybe there's a beautiful, emotional story behind this baby's name and we just don't know it yet. So I don't want to be too harsh on little Hash's mom and dad ... but I think it's safe to say that this child's name is gonna be a problem. Like, for life.

  • A Guide to EReaders: Which is the Best One for You?

I've been going through ereaders like a fiend these past few months - it seems that either Amazon or Barnes & Noble release a new one every few weeks - so I think it's time we talked a bit about which one of the latest crop is best for various users.

More from The Stir: Is There a Good Alternative to the iPad?

First, a little background. Right now there are really only four ereaders you should be thinking about. From the tablet family - meaning devices that are like iPads - Amazon makes the Kindle Fire and B&N makes the Nook HD. In the e-ink camp - the devices with black and white, high-contrast screens - you have the Kindle Paperwhite and the Nook Simple Touch With Glowlight.

Your first question is simple: Do I want a color device that will let me watch movies and television shows or a basic device designed only for reading?

As an avid reader, I've found that dedicated e-ink devices that are devoid of games and other frippery allow me to read with more

  • Faux Leather Leggings Look Awesome on Mom at the Playground (PHOTOS)

I have these vinyl leggings -- they are like pleather, faux leather. Skin tight. Technically they are polyester and spandex. If I wore them with a skin tight tank top all I would need is some hooker heels and I can make some money on the side. Of course I wouldn't.

More from The Stir: Size Labels on Clothes Make Me Feel Fat & Unattractive

I bought these bad-ass pants before I had kids. I wore them maybe once with a really long shirt and in the closet they lived until I realized they are just the thing that can spice up my wardrobe. I don't have to be boring just because I'm a mom. In fact, I feel like I could get away with more ... because my kids love it and they have reminded me that you can laugh and have fun with the silly things. Being silly is awesome. Just like faux leather leggings.

So I wear them. Just like this. And it's totally acceptable at the playground. I even let my daughter Pippi wear them.

She's 3. Hers have flowers on them. And we both like to

  • What's the Deal with Women Walking Around with Wet Hair?

wet hairwet hairThere was something about seeing a woman with wet hair that would drive me nuts. To me, it symbolized not having enough time to fully dry your hair before leaving the house. Or being rushed. I cannot stand being rushed. So maybe that's why it bugged me so much. Especially in winter. Weren't those women with wet heads cold? And because I would see these ladies during my morning commute on the subway on the way to work, I assumed they too were headed to an office, a professional setting, which was no place for hair not yet ready to face the day.

More from The Stir: Mom Who Gave Up Beauty Routine for a Whole Year Basically Gave Up on Herself

Some would twist the hair up in a bun or the worst offenders would let it hang, dripping water down their backs or fronts, making wet trails on clothes, jackets, coats. Why? WHY?

I learned why when I became one of those women.

Part of what I didn't understand about leaving the house with wet hair was leaving your hair style to chance.

  • Mom Who Gave Up Beauty Routine for a Whole Year Basically Gave Up on Herself

hairhairAfter hearing about a mom named Phoebe Baker-Hyde who gave up her beauty routine for an entire year, I couldn't help but sit back and ask myself whether or not I'd be able to do the same thing.

And when I say she gave up beauty -- I mean she GAVE UP beauty all together. She stopped wearing makeup. She cut her hair super-short so she wouldn't have to style it. She quit using basic things like moisturizers and face creams. And she also stopped dressing in anything remotely stylish, gave up shaving (yikes!), and even went so far as to cover all of the mirrors in her home.

More from The Stir: Major Eyebrow FAIL (PHOTO)

She made the drastic change in an effort to restore her self-esteem after having a baby, and she even wrote a book about her zero-grooming adventure, The Beauty Experiment.

And while she admits that her year long lack of all things beauty made her realize what's truly important, there is absolutely nothing she could say to convince me to try this experiment
