  • Have More Energy for Sex (and Everything Else)

Find the Right Time for Love
Seventy-nine percent of women crave sleep more than sex, found a national survey by the Better Sleep Council. And after a long day, you can barely muster the stamina for the two minutes it takes for your electric toothbrush to get the job done. There's a solution, says psychologist Laurie B. Mintz, PhD, the author of A Tired Woman's Guide to Passionate Sex, even if it's so obvious it's easy to dismiss: Don't wait until nighttime. Yes, that's when you have (or are supposed to have) some privacy, but it's also when testosterone, which is partially responsible for our sex drive, is at its lowest in both women and men, Mintz says. Testosterone is highest in the morning, and having sex at that time boosts your oxytocin levels. So if you follow Mintz's advice and schedule an a.m. tryst, you'll not only feel more energetic, but you should also feel more bonded to your partner for the rest of the day.

How to Wear Jeans at Work
My hard-and-fast rules about jeans in the office: Choose a dark wash in a skinny, straight-leg or trouser silhouette. Don't wash them too often--they'll get soft and fade; dry-clean instead to keep them crisp. Pair with office-appropriate accessories. When in doubt, don't wear anything to work that you would on the weekend or that you've seen your daughter in. And remember: With so much great denim to choose from, there is no excuse for mom jeans!

    Top it off with...

(Right) The longer length gives you more coverage, and the silk trim adds a dressy touch. ($79; PickwickWeller.com)

The Button to the Right of "On"
I know no joy like the joy of crossing something off my gargantuan list, because once I strike an item through, it leaves my brain entirely, like a web browser cleared of its cookies. Well, I just escaped a very trying period during which every night, my husband, who stays up later than I do, would say, "Don't worry, I will start the dishwasher," sparing us both the swishy noise it makes. I would cross it off my list, erase it from my mind browser and go to bed with a clear head--only to wake up to a dishwasher full of dirty dishes marinating in milk and spaghetti sauce. Why did he insist on torturing me in this way? After all, starting the dishwasher was no problem: I could easily push that button and cross it off my list on good authority. Why did he want to destroy my sense of well-being in this obviously malicious way? Then we realized the machine had a timer. Yes, some genius at Cut-Rate-Canadian-Tiny-Size-Dishwasher Company had thought

Clear Scalp & Hair Beauty Therapy Frizz Control Nourishing Shampoo

Start fighting frizz in the shower with a rich, moisturizing shampoo. Clear Scalp & Hair Beauty Therapy Frizz Control Nourishing Shampoo, $6, contains silicone to help seal the hair's cuticle (outer layer), so it absorbs less moisture from the air, which can add to frizz.

Use a hydrating mask instead of a conditioner after every wash. Heavy-duty argan, coconut and sweet almond oils in Suave Professionals Moroccan Infusion Deep Conditioning Shine Mask, $3.50, soften and repair.

A moisturizing styling cream, like Oribe Smooth Style Serum, $49, leaves hair sleek. Wrap your hair in a towel and press with your palms to absorb water--rubbing your hair dry makes it look frayed. Then work a dime-size amount of the cream through hair.

  • 7 Things Your Partner Wants to Hear Every Day

"I'd rather be spending time with you."
Yes, there's a "Save the Library" march tonight, which you must attend because your town is closing branches right and left. And yes, your husband understands the gravity of the situation and has even brought up supportive points like: "Libraries aren't just about books! They have free DVDs!" But as you race out the door to fight for universal literacy (and free DVDs!), or to meet up with your old friend from England, or to make the last-minute meeting at the office, letting your significant somebody know that he is preferable to any of your causes, obligations or goals not only keeps him from feeling like just another check-off on your to-do list, but also affirms that he is item number one on your to-adore list.

A Sweet with a Serious Wow Factor
Though this dessert looks like a plain white, frosted cake, slicing into it reveals seven Roygbiv-colored layers that will undoubtedly elicit oohs and aahs. The recipe, from Edd Kimber's Say It with Cake, may take a bit more time to prepare than others, but we guarantee you'll be licking the confetti-colored crumbs off the plate.

Sometimes even a cake that seems uncomplicated has an ingredient list a mile long and directions that make you want to pull your hair out. Not this classic from Jennifer Perillo's Homemade with Love. To make her light and airy layer cake, you add the wet and dry ingredients together all at once, and beat the batter on high speed (two things many pros warn against). Trust Perillo, and you'll be rewarded with a moist, buttery--and can't-go-wrong--meal finale.

  • Dr. Oz: Are Your Hormones Out of Whack?

Illustration: Todd DetwilerBy Dr. Mehmet Oz

I think of the body's hormones as musical instruments in an orchestra: Each plays its own part in creating a perfect concert--until the day one is out of tune and throws off the entire melody.

Although it was many years ago, I still remember one of the first patients I saw with a hormonal disturbance. She was a lovely woman in her early 40s who was a little heavy; despite having tried every diet under the sun, she couldn't seem to shed the extra pounds. As we talked and she mentioned a few more of her concerns--dry skin, brittle hair, a lack of energy (even shortly after her morning coffee)--I realized I needed to test her thyroid levels. Sure enough, they were too low. With proper medication, my patient's skin and energy improved, and she was no longer a prisoner to a simple chemical imbalance.

No one should have to live with an untreated hormone problem. Some require medical care, while others may be addressed with lifestyle adjustments, but almost all are
