  • Can a One-Day Soup Cleanse Really "Reset" Your System?

Soup Cleanse is the latest fad.By Annie Tomlin

We're living in the golden era of juicing, but it wasn't that long ago that juice cleanses were considered fringe-y rituals made by and for new-agey wackadoos. As recently as 2010, the concept of cleansing was still just nudging its way into the mainstream, as writer Judith Newman called her juice cleanse a "strange and green journey" in The New York Times. Now, though, it seems like there's a juice bar opening every other week, and in some circles, a seasonal juice cleanse is practically de rigueur. So what's the next logical step in liquid cleansing? Soup, naturally. Only a few months old, Soup Cleanse is the brainchild of Lucinda Duncalfe. The CEO and founder of Philadelphia-based Real Food Works, Duncalfe is a regular juice drinker herself. "A bunch of our folks [at Real Food Works] juice," she explains. "But we were a little concerned with the fact that juices have no fiber, and there's so much fruit in them that you end up with a lot of fructose-which isn't so Read More »from Can a One-Day Soup Cleanse Really "Reset" Your System?
  • Gracie Gold's 5 Best Beauty Tips

    Gracie's Gold's top beauty tips.

    By Megan Cahn

Gracie Gold led the Americans to bronze in the ice skating team event and although her fourth place finish left her just shy of an individual medal, she most certainly secured herself America's Sweetheart status. With her fluidity and ease on the ice, a name that could not better fit an Olympic skater, and that signature red lip, the face of CoverGirl was one to watch from the beginning-and not solely for her skating skills. Gold wore some of my favorite costumes (that long-sleeve blue sparkler, anyone?), and she does her own makeup. So as the Olympic withdrawal sets in, we can take these beauty tips away from the rising star until we see her again in South Korea 2018.

White Out. Before Gold applies her iconic red lipstick (CoverGirl Hot 305 to be exact), she has a little trick to make the color really pop. If you are going for a bold lip, whether red, a dark berry, or even a bright pink, put a little bit

  • 6 Spring Beauty Tips Straight from Beyonce's Makeup Artist

The aristocratically named Sir John pretty much won the makeup artist jackpot last summer when he got a call from Beyoncé's team asking him to work on the Mrs. Carter tour. He then ended up creating the makeup looks for eight of the videos in her recently released visual album. Any guy who has been that close to Bey's face is someone I definitely want to know.

While it doesn't seem like it (stupid polar vortex), spring is right around the corner, so I asked Sir John about spring trends and advice on how to sport scary looks like orange lipstick and radiant orchid anything. Best of all, he shared a few of his best beautifying secrets.

Thinking of treating yourself to a massage? Before you strip down and hit the table, there are a few rules of etiquette you should heed. chatted with several massage therapists (all of their names have been changed for confidentiality purposes), who shared some of the worst client behavior they've seen. DON'T call your massage therapist a "masseuse": Massage therapists have worked hard to shake off the lingering assumption that a "happy ending" is a legitimate request during a massage. All four therapists agreed that the term "masseuse" is generally icky and has sexual connotations.

DON'T worry about your hairy legs: "Women come in and apologize for not shaving their legs. I don't care at all. It happens almost everyday," says Eliza, a therapist with four years of experience in gym

  • I Lost Weight on the Chocolate Diet

    The chocolate diet actually works.

    By Natalie Matthews

When Dr. Will Clower tells me I can lose weight on a veritable IV drip of chocolate-eating it six times a day-I look at him like he's Cady Heron shilling Kalteen bars. And when I buy a bar of the chocolate I need for this experiment,

I'm convinced. It's thick, but it's the size of my TV remote and 700 calories. I can see the punchline already: "I tried a chocolate diet and gained 2.4 pounds, because obviously."

    Except I didn't.

Instead, I adopted this asinine-sounding program, and I lost weight, snacked less, ate healthier, and slept better. I know I sound like the smug, sing-song-y women in those Yoplait ads-Is that the key lime pie diet?!-but, well, yeah. It worked. Here's how it went down.

I sit down with Dr. Will Clower, whose new book, Eat Chocolate, Lose Weight, set off this harebrained scheme. ECLW is almost 300 pages, but the kicker is this: You can eat whatever you want during

  • Why I Never Tell My Coworkers My Age

    Marissa MayerBy Nisha Chitlal

When I was twenty-two, I was working as a strategist at a digital agency, and I went on a business trip to Miami to give a presentation to a major Fortune 500 client on our recommendations for the company's social media strategy. For weeks, I brainstormed ideas and slaved over creating the perfect PowerPoint deck for the meeting. The presentation, which I participated in with three more senior colleagues, went well. Afterward, as one of my colleagues and I waited for a taxi back to our hotel, my coworker, who was in her early thirties, congratulated me on a job well done and asked, "By the way, how old are you?" When I responded that I was twenty-two, her tone changed. She immediately squealed, "Oh my God, but you're such a baby! And they're letting you present to clients!"

Whereas a minute ago, she had been impressed with my presentation and my composure in front of major clients, now, having found out my age, she suddenly could only see me as just another

  • Why you should be shopping the baby aisle for all your beauty needs. By Jesse Breeden

It looks like the first month of 2014 will be ending the same way it began, cold as hell. With Polar Vortex 2.0 (or Arctic Blast, if you will) scheduled to bring on the big chill again, the weather won't let us forget that the long winter is coming.

These brutal elements have left me with chapped skin and dry hair that make me wonder if I should stop using all my products immediately and start over-like from the beginning-newborn-style. So I'm halting the use of my super-adult products with their adult issues, and starting to treat myself like the little miracle that I am, pampering myself with products meant for babies.

Arid, chilly air guzzles the moisture right out of my hair (as will the routine bleaching sessions I put my strands through). Enter my new liberator, California Baby Hair De-Tangler Spray. This French lavender-scented spritzer allows me to style my hair with ease, is

Strawberries as teeth whitener? Yep. By Megan Cahn

Though I opt for takeout more than I would like to admit, one of the things I really appreciate about cooking a meal at home is that I know exactly what I am putting in my body. It's so much healthier-not to mention cheaper. So why not use that same mentality when it comes to my beauty regimen? And in turn, the same shop. The grocery store is not only full of dinner options, but 100 percent natural items that work wonders for your skin and hair, too. Here's what you should add to your grocery list:

Next time you draw a bath, add a few cups of milk to the water. Lactic acid is a natural softener and will remedy your rough winter skin. For an at-home pedicure, soak your feet in a small basin of milk (any temperature you prefer) before you polish.
