  • The Benefits of Coconut Oil in Your Beauty Routine

Coconut Oil | Totalbeauty.comThe fashion world has "It" models, the health world has trendy, hard to pronounce superfoods ("ah-sah-EE" anyone?), and the beauty world has miracle oils. Moroccan and argan oils had their moment of glory, but they're old news now. Coconut oil is next in line for 15 minutes of fame -- it is to beauty what Cara Delevingne is to fashion. Everywhere you look, coconut oil is being flogged as the next best thing. It removes makeup! You can shave with it! It'll whiten your teeth! It even came up in our 5 Questions interviews with both Giada De Laurentiis and Miranda Kerr, surrounded with the words "love" and "favorite."

Should everyone run to the store and buy gallons of it? Before you fall for all of the hype, see how coconut oil fared in our rigorous road test. We dropped $20 for a big jar of Nutiva Coconut Oil (organic, extra virgin, and cold-pressed) and shared it around the office to find out if coconut oil lives up to its reputation as the new "it" oil for hair, skin, nails and

  • Cosmetics Company Chooses Quadriplegic Model

TotalBeauty.comCongratulations to Jessica Kruger, a Canadian beauty and quadriplegic wheelchair rugby player, who was chosen as the new beauty ambassador for Canadian beauty brand Lise Watier. Kruger was chosen as a finalist in an online competition, and then selected as the winner by a panel of judges. Kruger became a quadriplegic after falling off a ladder when she was 15.

The 21-year-old beat out over 400 other competitors to become the face of Lise Watier's "Something Sweet" perfume.

According to a spokesperson for Lise Watier, Kruger was chosen because "She is someone that we can all look at and learn from." She notes that Kruger wasn't chosen for her disability, but because of what she made out of it.

"We definitely chose her because she has just been so positive about everything that happened to her," said the representative for Lise Watier.

Kruger herself has plans for influencing the idea that models are just a pretty face.

"I want people to understand that I'm more than just a face,

  • Perfect Your Pout: 6 Best Lip Plumpers

Totalbeauty.comQuick, what do Lindsay Lohan, Heidi Montag, and Pamela Anderson have in common?

Answer: Addictions to bleach-blonde hair, poor life decisions, and awful lip injections. Even with all the advancements in cosmetic surgery and the best surgeons money can buy, these celebrities can't seem to get a lip enhancement that looks, well, natural. Is there really no way to get plump-looking lips à la Angelina Jolie without ending up with overly-injected duck lips?

Actually, yes, there is. Enter lip plumpers.

Click here to see the worst lip plumpers.

A good lip plumper can subtly add shape and volume to your lips without making you look like you got punched in the kisser. A bad lip plumper, on the other hand, can leave you with red, flaky, burning lips.

So admittedly, even with non-surgical lip plumpers, there's a bit of risk involved. That's why we had our most courageous readers review hundreds of lip plumping products to find the best. Read on to find out which ones are worthy of your

  • 11 Best Facial Sunscreens

Best Sunscreens | Totalbeauty.comNot to rain on your sun-filled, summer parade, but here are a few facts that should make you wake up from your margarita-and-sun-induced coma and force you to take a big whiff of the sunscreen: The incidence of melanoma (a deadly form of skin cancer) is on the rise -- an estimated 76,690 new cases of invasive melanoma will be diagnosed in the US in 2013. If that doesn't scare you, this will: 80 percent of the aging that dermatologists see is due to excess sun exposure since it can break down the collagen and elastin in your skin and cause more wrinkles.

Yikes. Okay, enough of the doom and gloom-y news report, let's talk safe sun. Luckily, there are a slew of facial skin care products that have SPF in 'em and our readers have put them to the test. Shelve bad memories of your parent's smearing thick, white, pasty zinc oxide on your nose and put aside the idea that you can't wear sunscreen on your face if you have oily skin -- these are the new generation of facial sunscreens, baby.

  • How to Battle Summer Camping Beauty Disasters

Summer Camping Beauty Bummers -- Solved | Totalbeauty.comWhen you're camping out, you want to be the girl who whips together a tent in 10 seconds flat. The girl complaining about mosquito bites, a sunburn or your greasy hair. But there's a fine line between being prepared and packing like a Kardashian. You camp. You don't "glamp."

  • Sugar: End Your Addiction with These Swaps

Sugar SwapsAre you addicted to sugar? A new study found that eating high-glycemic foods (think: white bread, potatoes, and corn syrup) can trigger cravings and tweak the parts of your brain linked to addiction, according to a research team led by David Ludwig, MD, PhD, director of the New Balance Foundation Obesity Prevention Center.

So, let's take a look at sugar substitutes with a lower-glycemic index. No, we're not talking about Splenda -- there are plenty of sugar substitutes derived from plants. These low-glycemic sweeteners aren't necessarily lower in calories (although some have zero), what's important is the type of calorie when you're consuming carbs. Just like you might trade white bread in for whole grain, think about swapping out the over-processed, empty calorie high-glycemic sweeteners for the low-glycemic and less-processed counterparts.
