Celebrate National Singles Week with a New Attitude! Celebrate National Singles Week with a New Attitude!

Posted by James Lane for BounceBack.com

This past Sunday kicked off National Singles Week. I know what you're thinking: Everyone already knows we are single, and we certainly know we are single, do we really need a whole week to reflect on it?!

There are over 100 million people in the United States who are single and unmarried, so you are definitely not alone, but maybe there is something to this lifestyle that we have never really thought about. We spend so much time going to bars, working out, eating healthy, and creating dating profiles, all in hopes of meeting that special someone; that person who will take us out of our single life slump.

But what I can't help but think, especially as a honoree of National Singles Week, is aren't there benefits to the single life?

Sure, you may not have someone to hold at night, but you also don't have someone to fight and nag with you during the day. You don't have to rely on someone. Or check with before

  • The Importance of Holding the Door: A Modern Woman's Guide to Chivalry

Just when you thought chivalry was dead...Just when you thought chivalry was dead...

Posted by Madeleine Harrington for BounceBack.com

A long time ago, the concept of royalty became desirable for nearly every woman in search of a significant other. Sure, it was in a much less figurative sense, but let's face it, we've all been guilty of it at one point or other in our short, love-stricken lives. While we've never necessarily pined for long bulky gowns and tight tiaras, we want to be swept off of our feet, for the restaurant bill to be paid for, and to walk through the door without having to lift a finger. We want to be taken care of, to be worshipped, and all around adored like a, well, princess.

What we want is old fashioned, bare knuckles, noble steed and sword in hand chivalry. And is there anything wrong with that? After all, aside from ruling a nation, there is so reason we would deserve any lesser treatment. I can confidently say that chivalry is indeed very much alive, just as long as we're willing to put on the armor and do a little door

When it Comes to Dating, What are the Rules we Must Follow? When it Comes to Dating, What are the Rules we Must Follow?

Today as my blackberry shot off that obnoxious sound to alert me of a new text message from a new beau, I got to thinking of the rules and regulations one must follow in order to play the dating game. Dating, unlike any Milton Bradley board game, comes with no manual explaining the step by step instructions on how to win against the opponent. And phones, especially the iPhone, Blackberry, and any other smart phone device out there leave us to feel clueless, confused, and just plain stupid.

Should dating be a strategic and carefully planned part of life? Must we devote so much time and attention to get people to like us? I wish it was as simple as the game of Life. But, low and behold, there is no clear path that directs us to a job, spouse, 2.5 children, or even the Victorian mansion. We usually just get stuck with a GED education, remain single, and living in the Beach Shack.

Are the vows really necessary when it comes to saying Are the vows really necessary when it comes to saying

I have friends who have always wanted to get married, psycho-briding their way through every tiny detail, but they don't seem to spend a second thinking about being married. Several months post-nuptial, they're on their way to becoming a twenty-something divorcee. I am convinced that in the fog of new love, they are unable to consider the implications of the words they repeat during the ceremony.

I'm a realist, and if the gods of western marriage asked me to rewrite the traditional wedding vows to force the happy couple to actually think about what they are saying, they would probably come out something like this:

    For richer or poorer:

If you lose all our money in a pyramid scheme, I will fix up my parents' basement, move us in, and I will still love you.

If you are being chased by gangsters because you can't pay your gambling debts, I will study kung fu

New York City. The concrete jungle. The city that never sleeps. The city filled with museums, culture, art, and a beautiful park, smack dab in the middle of the island.

For those of us that live within the five boroughs of Manhattan, we are every day entertained with the excitement of being able to live in a city that, just like its name states, is all about the new. New restaurants, new bars, and new shops are opening up so fast, that we cannot even keep track.

There is always a new hotspot to be seen at, a new food to tasted, and a new club to get drunk at. Perhaps that is why the city never sleeps. We are too interested in trying everything, and keeping up that we somehow lose the ability, or even willingness, of taking a break and going to bed. Maybe this is why the city never sleeps.

The same goes for relationships. You always hear people grunt

The First Things You Should Know on Your First DateThe First Things You Should Know on Your First Date

First dates. Some people dread them like going to the dentist and others treat them as if this date is going to be the ending of all first dates - because it is going to be such a success. I like to see first dates like the first day of school in a new town. You search for the perfect outfit and you psych yourself up because you want to make a good impression on the classmates and the teachers.

Like the first day of school, your tummy can be a ball of nerves, just like on a first date. The best thing to do is get that outfit that makes you feel confident, know that the person going out with you is lucky to be going on a date with you, and you have done your homework. You are ready to take the test.

Day or Night : When is the best time to meet someone? Day or Night : When is the best time to meet someone?

Everyone has their own story. You can meet someone in so many different places, in so many different ways, that we are all bound to tell very unique tales. Fate, destiny, and any other predetermined notions can easily be involved, providing the story with more passion, shoeing away any uniformity that might exist. These are the stories we live to tell. These are the stories we live for.

I've had some strangely unique stories in my day. Going above and beyond to talk to someone or going above and beyond to get to know someone can be all the story needs to find its place amongst the meaningful and the powerful. But as uniquely written, my stories have always been two distinct, initial themes, introducing my stories in a dichotomous, night and day fashion.

    Night

Sex. I should leave it at that but the substance to my article will disappear into -- the night. Initial, sexual attraction blows gravity out of the

The Truth, The Whole Truth, and Anything But the TruthThe Truth, The Whole Truth, and Anything But the Truth

When it comes to dating, especially in those beginning stages, we all try our best to trick or deceive the person we are courting. Whether it be fibbing about our actual jobs or telling a little white lie about the year we spent in prison, it's pretty natural to exaggerate or mislead others to make us appear as someone they really want to date.

For me, I do a whole lot of online dating, which makes this whole lying thing that much easier. Instead of having to lie on the spot when asked what the tear drop tattoo on my left eye means, I can instead take the time to devise a wordy e-mail, scan and edit it before sending.

Like most people, I am a horrible liar when it comes to face-to-face interactions. It started when my mom would come in my room and ask if my homework was completed. Or when my dad would pull me into his office to ask if the shirt he was wearing made him look fat.

With summer coming to an end many people will be putting away the volleyball nets, saying goodbye to the beach and ending those fleeting summer romances. In exchange for that goodbye to the season they might also be saying hello to the dating scene. Most will be putting themselves back on the market which also means they will need to dust off their online dating profiles or create a brand new one.

Before we all boot up our online dating profiles with pictures of us looking amazing, let's first go over a few Do's and Don'ts to making ours unique and stand out above the rest!

    The Do's -

    1. Hobbies - When writing your profile be sure to include your hobbies, whether that be the sports you are into, the movies you attend or the concerts you go to. We've all been in that awkward moment before; regardless of if we have acted awkward ourselves. Some of us have played it cool while others of us have stumbled on our words, tripped over our feet, and acted like a complete fool. They are your ex significant other for a reason. You're supposed to have forgotten all about them. So aren't you supposed to act that way when you're awkwardly confronted in their presence, like you have forgotten all about them?
