  • Get the Oscars Red-Carpet Jewelry Looks for Less

Last night, stars flooded the Kodak Theatre in Los Angeles for the 83rd Annual Academy Awards, hosted by Anne Hathaway and James Franco. Despite the night's highs and lows, including Natalie Portman's first Oscar win and Melissa Leo's flopped speech, we were more interested in one thing: the fashion! From bursts of color, embellishments, and fitted silhouettes to tulle, nude tones, whites, and metallics, the Oscar dresses seen on the red carpet made our Oscar dress predictions look less like predictions and more like inside info!

Hits included Mila Kunis's Elie Saab lilac dress, Michelle Williams in her winter white Chanel number, and Jennifer Hudson's jaw-dropping tangerine Versace dress. However, our Oscar for favorite dress(es) went to Anne Hathaway, who stole the night with her red strapless Valentino head-turner, her Oscar de la Renta sequined dress, and her purple sapphire Giorgio Armani Privé custom satin gown. Some of our misses included Amy Adams in a sequin L'Wren

Fashion Starts with Storage Solutions: Get Organized!
You may think that being stylish starts with shopping, but you would be wrong. Being stylish starts with having your clothes, shoes, and accessories organized in your wardrobe. How do you know what to buy if you don't fully know what you own-and what you don't? Once you have waded through your wardrobe, weeded out those jeans from college, stored your grandmother's vintage beaded sweaters, organized your shoes, and made a few other simple changes, you can assess what pieces you need to complete an outfit or what outfits you need but don't have at all.

Most people don't have an unlimited budget. So, if you're one of them, you want to avoid fashion frivolity, and be able to say-without smirking-that you are buying things you need. The idea is to enhance your wardrobe, not overwhelm it with things you'll never wear. The first lesson in shopping 101-get organized.

  • 15 Fashion Commandments: My Personal Style Rules

In my 15 years as a fashion stylist, I've seen a lot-people with closets full of clothes with the tags still on, clients who like to have me style all of their outfits and put them into a spreadsheet or photo book, celebs who insisted on wearing sneakers under their (very long) gowns, rap artists who hired me to choose, buy, then display hundreds of dollars worth of Christmas gifts under their trees. To create effortless personal fashion style, I advise following a set of 15 fashion commandments-they're easy rules of fashion, and they make getting dressed a snap.

Fashion Trends Have a Role, Just Not a Starring One

    1. Don't be overly trendy, but do keep your wardrobe modern and fresh.
    2. Cultivate a signature style, but remember that having style is a lot more than just following fashion trends.

Personal Style Is the Secret to Being Chic

    3. Be true to who you are, even with fashion. Don't buy something impulsively just because you love it if you don't have

  • Up & Coming Designer Brand: Kaelen

One to Watch: Toronto Designer Kaelen
In 2010, Toronto native Kaelen Farncombe made her fashion debut with her fall/winter collection. A year later, this young designer has continued to grow her line of edgy and modern, yet timeless, pieces to much industry praise.

From Kaelen's Roots in Toronto to the Fashion World at Parsons in NYC
Kaelen fell in love with fashion at a young age, shopping for special-occasion dresses with her mother and grandmother at The Room at The Bay, the upscale women's department in one of Toronto's flagship department stores. On these shopping trips, she was drawn to clothing, finding it beautiful and exciting. Years later, after receiving a degree in English literature, Kaelen decided to pursue a career in fashion by studying marketing at Parsons The New School for Design. While there, she found herself more attracted to fashion's creative process, not its business side. And after interning at both Jenni Kayne and Stella McCartney, she

  • Because of all the years I've spent working in restaurants, the last place on earth where I want to be on Valentine's Day is a restaurant. Thanksgiving through Valentine's Day is the craziest time of the year at my artisan chocolate shop and bakery, Valerie Confections. So once our busy season hits, there is nothing that my partner Stan and I love more than a great bottle of wine and good food for a romantic DIY Valentine's Day celebration at home.

We start with Manhattans (my fave holiday cocktail) and nibble on some crostini with cumquat marmalade, gruyere cheese, and salami. For dinner we get a really fantastic bottle of red wine and either order pizza from Mozza2Go, near our Los Angeles home, or if we have time, Stan makes a great cast-iron pizza.

For your romantic Valentine's Day celebration, your dessert should definitely be something you can eat with your fingers. Nothing is sexier! Plus, the
