  • The 10 Most Crazy, Over-the-Top Foods of the Year

    By Lauren Le Vine, REDBOOK.

The Opening Day Bloody MaryIt's often said that every story has already been told, and new ones are just variations on the same themes. Transfer that analogy to food and put it in the competitive pressure cooker of 2013, and you've got the year in food. No one seemed content to create simple, new recipes. Instead, the culinary-minded combined already complicated foods and drinks, with each iteration adding on more and more to one-up the previous ones. Here are 10 epic concoctions that had us talking this year.

  • 5 Signs We Will Never Talk to Each Other Ever Again

    By Ava Feuer, REDBOOK.

Nobody say anything. It's fine.Sure, we're grateful that we no longer have to scream across the house for our husband when we want him to bring something upstairs with him (thanks, texting), are able shop from the comfort of our couches (see: Cyber Monday), and can easily connect our kids with their far-away-dwelling grandparents (FaceTime is fab), but this week's news makes us wonder whether things are getting a little out of control. Cause human communication and closeness is a thing, and one we'd kind of like to keep some semblance of if at all possible-but that may be moot with these five "upgrades."

    Tablets at Applebee's
The dining chain announced this morning that that by the end of 2014, tablets will await you at every table. And IHOP may soon do the same. The idea is to order foods on the devices, but it can be nice to chat with your waitress, or you know, not have to wrestle one more thing away from your game-playing 6-year-old and

  • Women Cheat Because of These Male Bedroom Habits?

    By Ava Feuer, REDBOOK.

We recently learned that a whopping two-thirds of unfaithful folks claim they wouldn't have strayed without the help of technology. Now, Victoria Milan, a site that connects those looking for action outside of their relationships and the source of that not-so-cheery news, is back with more insight. In a survey of more than 4,000 of its female members, 68 percent said they were unfaithful because their relationships lacked good sex. More blame goes to five other major man mistakes: not being a gentleman in bed (stealing the covers and socks on in bed = a new squeeze?), selfishness, relying on overly-dirty, pornographic talk, acting without spontaneity and creativity, and skipping foreplay.

A small bright spot: 65 percent of women agreed that if their partner cut back on these errors, they wouldn't cheat, simply because they'd rather have sex with someone they loved. There's some hope?

Experts who deal with the sometimes-painful fallout say these things could save you a whole lot of time and money later on. By Caroline Wright, REDBOOK.

    1. Draft a prenuptial agreement.
It has almost become a cliché that signing a prenup is the most unromantic thing a soon-to-be-married couple can do. But it might be time to start thinking differently, since skipping it could mean letting a court seal your financial fate rather than doing so as a team while you're both still deeply in love and concerned about each other's well-being. That's probably why 49 percent of divorced people thought having a prenup was a good idea, and 15 percent of them regretted not signing one, according to a Harris Interactive poll. If you have major assets, or think you may at some point come into them, signing a prenup is the easiest way to ensure that you always hold on to everything for which you worked. Determining who gets what before you sign on the dotted line can save you from a messy legal

  • Top Doc Secrets to Finally Getting the Sleep You Need

Calling all tired women: You've tried the typical sleep advice (yawn… no, really, yawn). Now listen to what wise MDs tell their exhausted pals and get some real rest. By Lisa Whitmore, REDBOOK.

Eight hours a night is a myth

"If a friend comes to me stressed out because she isn't getting eight hours of sleep a night, I reassure her that it's okay. In fact, from a math perspective, the average person only needs 7½ hours of sleep, or five 90-minute sleep cycles. But it's individual. For instance, I've been sleeping fine on 6½ or 7 hours my whole life. The best way to figure out how much sleep you need is to calculate 7½ hours before you have to get up--that's your bedtime. If you wake up feeling great, you need 7½ hours. If not, adjust your bedtime gradually till you hit the magic number." - Michael Breus, Ph.D., clinical psychologist specializing in sleep, fellow of the American Academy of Sleep Medicine
