  • Would You Ever Dye Your Child's Hair?

Not that I think celebrity parent's always make the best decisions, but Gwen Stefani does seem like a pretty awesome mom to me. She's always photographed spending QT with her boys and she's said they come before her career.

But I'm wondering about her decision to dye her son Kingston's hair. I thought it was naturally blonde like her younger son, Zuma's, but now I'm not so sure. Here's a pic of Kingston with dark brown locks:

And here's a more recent pic of him with noticeably lighter locks:

Just wondering if any other moms out there have dyed their child's hair? If so, why? And is it safe?

News just broke that People magazine bought the first photos of Jessica Simpson's baby girl, Maxwell Drew. And the price for those photos? $805,000!!

Insane, right? But it turns out, not really. Considering the going rate for celebrity baby photos in the past, People actually sort of got the photos for pretty cheap. Not that Jessica Simpson is in dire need for extra cash, but take a look at what some other celebrity parents were paid for their baby photos:

    matthew mccounaughey levi ok magazine
Matthew McConaughey received $3 million from OK! magazine for the first photos of Levi.

    jennifer lopez twin people magazine

People magazine paid Jennifer Lopez $6 million for the first photos of her twins, Max and Emme.

    angelina jolie people magzine twins

A few years later, Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt reportedly received $12-$14 million for the first photos of Knox and Vivienne.

So comparatively speaking, $805,000 isn't really all that much. It's actually kind of a low offer...

  • Would You Let a Stranger Touch Your Child's... Hair?

    hair

On Saturday, while enjoying a Mother's Day pedicure with my mother and my daughter, it happened to me. As I was sitting waiting for my nails to dry, one of the nail technician's who didn't have a client came over and told me how cute my daughter was. I thanked her and then she asked, "Can I touch it?" Huh? I thought to myself. "Her hair," the woman said. "Can I touch her hair?" Before long, there was a small gathering of three woman running their fingers over my daughter's braided hair.

Now part of me wants to see the good in this. I get that cornrows look "cool" if you're not accustomed to seeing them every day. I get the very rudimentary feeling of wanting to get a closer look at something that's unfamiliar. I know, well at least I hope, these women didn't intend to make me or my daughter feel ostracized.

Problem is, while they were gawking over my daughter's hair, there was another part of me that wanted to say she isn't a sideshow act. It's hair for goodness sake! And

  • Should Non-Moms Get Mother's Day Gifts??

    mothers day gift

Seriously. Over the weekend, I overheard a woman going on and on about what she wanted for Mother's Day. Diamond earrings, a few hours at the spa and a nice dinner out. Except for one small detail--she didn't have any kids! I almost fell out of my chair when the lady she was with asked, "Your husband does all that and you guys don't even have kids?"

Apparently, they have an agreement that because she could theoretically have kids, she should get a Mother's Day present. Is it just me or is that a little... weird?

I don't mean to sound exclusionary, but it's Mother's Day not Women's Day, right? I mean, she has never stayed up all night with a sick kid or had to sacrifice, well, anything because she couldn't get a sitter. Mother's Day is all about saying thanks for those sacrifices. Except, she hasn't had to make them. So are those diamond earrings like, "Thanks in advance?"

Don't get me wrong--I'm not a big Mother's Day mom myself. I'd rather go all out for my own mom than

  • What's Scarier: Labor or C-Section?

    jessica simpson pregnant

Don't judge me for reading In Touch. But I occasionally check them out to get my celebrity fill and I couldn't help but get sucked in by a story about Jessica Simpson, who's pregnant. According to the site, a source told them Jessica is so afraid of giving birth naturally that she's scheduled a C-section. According to the source, "Jessica has no tolerance for pain" and "The thought of going into labor scared the bejeezus out of her."

Now I could care less if a woman chooses to have a C-section or pushes the baby out the old-fashioned way. I happen to be of the belief that having a baby shouldn't be traumatic, so however you feel most comfortable getting to the end goal is up to you.

But as a mom who delivered naturally, I have to say having a C-section seems exponentially more scary than pushing the baby out. The thought of having my stomach and uterus sliced open is downright terrifying. Granted, I've never had any surgery--unless you count having my wisdom teeth extracted

  • Reason #456 Homeschoolers Just Might Be onto Something.

    justin toth

Earlier this morning, I couldn't help but be intrigued when I read a teaser about the man who replaced Osama bin Laden on the FBI's 10 Most Wanted List.

Now if you, like me, are expecting some psycho serial killer or a terrorist mastermind, you're wrong. The newest addition to the FBI's Most Wanted List is actually a teacher.

Well, Justin Toth was a teacher before the school he was working for in Washington D.C. found child pornography on a school-issued camera he was in possession of. The school put him on leave, contacted the police and that's when Toth--who was just 26 at the time--went on the run.

Now I don't mean to freak you out, but I guess I sort of do. Looking at that pic above of Justin Toth, he could be a teacher in any one of our children's schools. Before teaching, he probably had no criminal record and he looks innocent enough. But in a matter of 4 years, he went from third grade teacher at a prestigious private school to fugitive. That's scary.

    What's

  • Too Young to Be Mothers?

    25 pregnant

Have you noticed that more and more younger celebrities are expecting babies these days? First, there was Hilary Duff who just welcomed her first child at 24. Then there was Kristin Cavallari, who announced she was pregnant at 25. Then came Snooki, who's 24 and pregnant. And now there are rumors that Megan Fox--who was born in 1986--is pregnant.

I feel like in Hollywood, women traditionally wait until they are older to have children, but more and more younger stars are having babies. And it's kind of inspirational.

As a young mother, people always balk that I had a baby before I really ever "experienced" life. But you know what? I've wanted to be a mom for as long as I can remember. And now that I am a mom, it's the best thing I've ever done.

And much to people's surprise, my life hasn't stopped since I had my daughter. I still have professional aspirations, I still have friends and I still love to shop. I wouldn't exactly say I have it all, but being a mom was important
